AI Article Synopsis

  • Nine new clerodane-type diterpenoids (caseabalanspenes A-I) were discovered from the twigs and leaves of Casearia velutina, alongside six known compounds.
  • The structures of these compounds were identified using spectroscopic techniques and their molecular formulas were confirmed through high-resolution mass spectrometry.
  • Among the new compounds, caseabalanspene 3 showed significant anti-inflammasome activity, reducing LDH levels in a dose-dependent manner with an IC value of 2.90 μM.

Article Abstract

Nine previously undescribed clerodane-type diterpenoids (1-9), named caseabalanspenes A-I, along with six know compounds (10-15), were isolated from the twigs and leaves of Casearia velutina. Spectroscopic data (1D and 2D NMR) analysis permitted the definition of their structures and then determination of the molecular formula of the compound by high resolution mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS). It is worth noting that compound 7 contains N- heterocycle. Compounds 1-8 were tested the anti-inflammasome activity, and compound 3 exhibited potent activity and decreased LDH level in a dose-dependent manner, with IC values of 2.90 μM.

A new oleanane-type triterpenoid, 3β-acetyl-15α-hydroxy-oleanane-13β,28-olide (1), and a new clerodane furanoditerpenoid, cnidophyllin A (2), together with eleven known compounds (3-13) were isolated and identified from the 95% EtOH extract of the leaves and twigs of Croton cnidophyllus. Except for compounds 3 and 7, all other compounds were isolated for the first time from C. cnidophyllus.

Four new alkaloids, meloformisine A (1), meloformine B (2), meloformine F (3), meloformine G (4), along with five known alkaloids (5-9) were isolated from the leaves and twigs of Melodinus fusiformis. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of detailed spectroscopic evidence, including 1D and 2D NMR, MS, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structure of 1 was a novel indole alkaloid with an unprecedented 6/5/5/5/5 pentacyclic skeleton.

Anderss (Salicaceae), commonly referred to as Korean willow, is native to East Asia, particularly Korea and China, and it has been used in traditional Korean folk medicine for its potent anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant properties. In our ongoing research efforts to discover biologically new natural products, phytochemical analysis on an ethanolic extract of twigs yielded the isolation and identification of ten phenolic compounds (-), including a newly discovered phenolic glycoside () named isograndidentatin D, isolated via HPLC purification. The structure of compound was determined through extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectral data analysis and high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HR-ESIMS).

Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Plant Evolutionary Ecology and Conservation, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Taizhou University, Taizhou 318000, China.

A comprehensive phytochemical investigation of the twigs/leaves and flower buds of , a rare deciduous shrub native to China, led to the isolation of 39 structurally diverse compounds. These compounds include 11 iridoid glycosides (- and -), 20 triterpenoids (, , and -), and 8 phenylpropanoids (-). Among these, amabiliosides A () and B () represent previously undescribed bis-iridoid glycosides, while amabiliosides C () and D () feature a unique bis-iridoid-monoterpenoid indole alkaloid scaffold with a tetrahydro--carboline-5-carboxylic acid moiety.
