Multidrug efflux pumps have been found to play a crucial role in drug resistance in bacteria and eukaryotes. In this study, we investigated the presence of functional multidrug and toxic compound extrusion (MATE) efflux pumps, inferred from whole genome sequencing, in the halophilic archaeon Halorubrum amylolyticum CSM52 using Hoechst 33342 dye accumulation and antimicrobial sensitivity tests in the presence and absence of efflux pump inhibitors (EPIs). The whole genome sequence of H.

The stone loach Barbatula barbatula is a benthic fish species widely distributed throughout Europe, primarily inhabiting stony upper sections of stream networks. This study presents an updated genome assembly of B. barbatula, contributing to the species' available genomic resources for downstream applications such as conservation genetics.

Adaptive divergence and increased genetic differentiation among populations can lead to reproductive isolation. In Lake Constance, Germany, a population of invasive three-spined stickleback () is currently diverging into littoral and pelagic ecotypes, which both nest in the littoral zone. We hypothesized that assortative mating behaviour contributes to reproductive isolation between these ecotypes and performed a behavioural experiment in which females could choose between two nest-guarding males.

Everolimus Through Plasmatic Concentrations in Cancer Patients: Prospective Longitudinal Observational Multicentric Study (DIANA-1 Project).

J Clin Med

December 2024

Pharmacy Department, Institut Català Oncologia (ICO), Institut d'Investigació Biomèdica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL), L'Hospitalet Llobregat, 08908 Barcelona, Spain.

Everolimus, an oral inhibitor of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), is actually used to prevent organ transplant rejection and treat metastatic breast, renal, and neuroendocrine cancers. Despite significant pharmacokinetic variability among patients, routine therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is not commonly used in oncology. The aim of this multicenter, prospective observational cohort study is to assess the prevalence of everolimus minimum concentration at a steady state (Cminss) falling outside the therapeutic range (10-26.

Oncolytic viruses expressing MATEs facilitate target-independent T-cell activation in tumors.

EMBO Mol Med

January 2025

Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Infectious Diseases and Endocrinology, Hannover Medical School, Hannover, Germany.

Oncolytic viruses (OV) expressing bispecific T-cell engagers (BiTEs) are promising tools for tumor immunotherapy but the range of target tumors is limited. To facilitate effective T-cell stimulation with broad-range applicability, we established membrane-associated T-cell engagers (MATEs) harboring the protein transduction domain of the HIV-Tat protein to achieve non-selective binding to target cells. In vitro, MATEs effectively activated murine T cells and improved killing of MC38 colon carcinoma cells.
