Monocyte-to-macrophage transformation is a phenomenon which correlates with the absolute number of mononuclear cells, principally lymphocytes, contained in the culture. The addition of cimetidine to cultures of mononuclear cells from the peripheral blood of healthy volunteers enhances monocyte transformation (probably by way of blocking the H2 receptors of suppressors T lymphocytes) regardless of the absolute number of monocytes in the culture or of basal transformation rates. Removal of the lymphocytes from the cultures lowers the basal transformation rate and prevents the effect of cimetidine. The addition of histamine to the cultures causes significant depression of the monocyte transformation rate; this effect is partly offset by the concurrent addition of cimetidine. In the case of cancer patients, mononuclear cell cultures from peripheral blood fail to respond to cimetidine even though basal transformation rates are not significantly different from those of healthy controls; this suggests some intrinsic impairment of monocyte function, possibly mediated by blocking factors produced by the tumor.

The glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) has a unique spatial structure, including porous capillary endothelial cells, glomerular basal membrane (GBM) and highly specialized podocytes. This special structure is essential for the hemofiltration process of nephrons. GBM is the central meshwork structure of GFB formed by the assembly and fusion of various extracellular matrix (ECM) macromolecules, such as laminins and collagens, which undergo isoform transformation and maturation that may require precise regulation by metalloproteinases.

The small GTPase R-RAS2 regulates homeostatic proliferation and survival of T and B lymphocytes and, when present in high amounts, drives the development of B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia. In normal and leukemic lymphocytes, R-RAS2 constitutively binds to antigen receptors through their immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motifs (ITAMs) and promotes tonic activation of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling pathway. Objectives: To investigate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of infants and young children with basal ganglia infarction after minor head trauma (BGIMHT).
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data and follow-up results of children aged 28 days to 3 years with BGIMHT who were hospitalized at Children's Hospital of Soochow University from January 2011 to January 2022.
Results: A total of 45 cases of BGIMHT were included, with the most common symptom being limb movement disorders (96%, 43/45), followed by facioplegia (56%, 25/45).
