A collaborative effort between experiment and theory toward elucidating the electronic and molecular structures of uranium-gold clusters is presented. Anion photoelectron spectra of UAu( = 3-7) were taken at the third (355 nm) and fourth (266 nm) harmonics of a Nd:YAG laser, as well as excimer (ArF 193 nm) photon energies, where the experimental adiabatic electron affinities and vertical detachment energies values were measured. Complementary first-principles calculations were subsequently carried out to corroborate experimentally determined electron detachment energies and to determine the geometry and electronic structure for each cluster. Except for the ring-like neutral isomer of UAu where one unpaired electron is spread over the Au atoms, all other neutral and anionic UAu clusters ( = 3-7) were calculated to possess open-shell electrons with the unpaired electrons localized on the central U atom. The smaller clusters closely resemble the analogous UF species, but significant deviations are seen starting with UAu where a competition between U-Au and Au-Au bonding begins to become apparent. The UAu system appears to mark a transition where Au-Au interactions begin to dominate, where both a ring-like and two heavily distorted octahedral structures around the central U atom are calculated to be nearly isoenergetic. With UAu, only ring-like structures are calculated. Overall, the calculated electron detachment energies are in good agreement with the experimental values.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common manifestation of oral cancer. It has been proposed that periodontal pathogens contribute to OSCC progression, mainly by their virulence factors. However, the main periodontal pathogen and its mechanism to modulate OSCC cells remains not fully understood.

A dual-signal aptamer-based assay utilizing colorimetric and fluorescence techniques was developed for the determination of zearalenone (ZEN). The CdTe quantum dots, serving as the fluorescent signal source, were surface-modified onto FeO@SiO and subsequently functionalized with the aptamer. The COF-Au was modified with complementary chain, which possessed peroxide (POD)-like enzyme properties, and could catalyze the peroxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to ox TMB, resulting in the generation of colorimetric signals.

Despite numerous studies aimed at solving the detrimental dissolution issue of organic electrode materials (OEMs), a fundamental understanding of their dissolution mechanism has not yet been established. Herein, we systematically investigate how changes in electrolyte composition affect the ion-solvent interactions propagating to OEM dissolution by changing the cation. The cyclability of OEM is significantly different by alkali cations, where the OEM with K is stable even after 300 cycles and that with Li is drastically decayed within 100 cycles.

Extracting uranium from seawater is crucial for tapping oceanic resources vital to future energy supply. This study synthesized a novel nitrogen vacancy carbon nitride (NCN) grafted polyethyleneimine (PEI) composite material (NCNP). Experiments and molecular dynamics simulations reveal that NCNP effectively hinders the diffusion of uranyl ions (UO ) to the NCN surface, thereby inhibiting electron transfer reactions.
