Elena Essel (Msc) spoke to Ebony Torrington, Managing Editor of . Essel is a molecular biologist in Matthias Meyer's Advanced DNA Sequencing Techniques group at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig (Germany). Essel studied biology at University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Erlangen, Germany) for her bachelor's and in Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg (Halle an der Saale, Germany) for her master's. Essel worked in Meyer's group on DNA extraction of very degraded material for her master's thesis. Meyer is an expert in developing new cutting-edge methods for researching ancient DNA, with a focus on skeletal remains, and more recently on sediment remains. Essel now focusses on DNA sampling and extraction aspects of the pipeline at Meyer's lab for the ancient DNA workflow.

Background: Human Lung Carcinoma (LC) is among the most diagnosed cancers across the world among those non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) comprises about 85%. Next Generation Sequencing based detection of mutations are now well established in molecular oncology. With the advent of modern diagnostic methods, it is now well known that there are several mutations and gene rearrangements which are associated with the development of LC.

Objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, destructive autoimmune disorder predominantly targeting the joints, with gut microbiota dysbiosis being intricately associated with its progression. The aim of the present study was to develop of effective early diagnostic methods for early RA based on gut microbiota.
Methods: A cohort comprising 262 RA patients and 475 healthy controls (HCs) was recruited.

Atahualpa is a rural village located in coastal Ecuador, a region that has been inhabited by people as early as 10,000 years ago. The traditional diet of their indigenous inhabitants is rich in oily fish and they have, therefore, served as a model for investigating the beneficial effects of such a diet. However, the genetic background of this population has not been studied.

Notably, a series of such predation events have been reported from South Africa over the last decade, with killer whales specifically targeting sharks' liver. However, observations of these interactions are rare, and knowledge of their frequency across the world's oceans remains limited.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the possible association of LPCAT1-rs8352 genetic variant (single nucleotide change C to G) with the onset and severity of pediatric asthma. Additionally, the study examined the influence of LPCAT1-rs8352 genotypes on asthma-related biomarkers including blood eosinophils count (BEC), eosinophil cationic protein (ECP), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and immunoglobulin E (IgE) and on lung function [forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and the forced vital capacity (FVC)].
Patients And Methods: The study included ninety-six participant grouped into two groups: G1 (46 asthmatics) and G2 (50 healthy controls).
