Discovery of Undescribed Flavonoid and Rotenoid Derivatives from the Leaves of Derris trifoliata with Their Cytotoxic Activity.

Chem Biodivers

January 2025

Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Department of Structural Research, 18 Hoang Quoc Viet, 10000, Hanoi, VIET NAM.

Phytochemical study on the leaves of Derris trifoliata led to the isolation of five rotenoids (3-7) and ten flavonoid derivatives (1, 2, 8-15). Three of them, (2S)-5,7-dihydroxy-6-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-8-(3-methylbut-2-en-1-yl)chroman-4-one (1), keampferol 3-O-[6-O-(E)-feruloyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl]-(1→2)-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), and (+)-13-homo-13-oxa-6a,12a-dehydrorotenone (3) were verified by Scifinder as previously undescribed compounds. Their chemical structures were elucidated by using IR, ECD, HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR methods.

Two previously undescribed triterpenoid saponins from the roots and rhizomes of Maxim.

Front Chem

January 2025

Department of Chinese Materia Medica and Natural Medicines, School of Pharmacy, The Air Force Medical University, Xi'an, China.

Since ancient times, plants have provided humans with important bioactive compounds for the treatment of various diseases. Nine compounds were isolated from the roots and rhizomes of Caulophyllum robustum (a plant in the family Panaxaceae), including two new saponins C. Spanion A and C.

Spiny pocket mice are usually divided into two genera, Heteromys and Liomys, and more recently the latter have been subsumed into the former, leaving subfamily Heteromyinae with one genus. However, this arrangement conveys false equivalency among heteromyines, and does not represent the great morphological, molecular, and ecological diversity in this subfamily. To address this, geometric morphometric methods were used to explore interspecific cranial variation in this subfamily, which were then evaluated in the context of recent phylogenetic and taxonomic findings.

Starch accumulation in plants provides carbon for nighttime use, for regrowth after periods of dormancy, and for times of stress. Both ɑ- and β-amylases (AMYs and BAMs, respectively) catalyze starch hydrolysis, but their functional roles are unclear. Moreover, the presence of catalytically inactive amylases that show starch excess phenotypes when deleted presents questions on how starch degradation is regulated.

Taxonomy and phylogeny of three rust fungi parasitic on in Korea, with . on .

Fungal Syst Evol

December 2024

Center for Convergent Agrobioengineering, Kunsan National University, Gunsan 54150, Republic of Korea.

Rust fungi are important pathogens of trees, ornamental plants, and food crops. Field research targeting rust diseases across Korea uncovered three distinct species of , affecting different members of the family . In our examination of both wild and cultivated grapevine () species, including , , and , we found as well as a previously undescribed rust species, which we describe here as , which was previously identified as a rust pathogen of spp.
