Objectives: To investigate the frequency of NLRP3 gene rs35829419 C>A single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in a Saudi Arabian population from Jazan (Southwest Saudi Arabia) and test its potential association with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Methods: This case-control study included 546 volunteers (271 patients with T2DM and 275 healthy controls) recruited from outpatient clinics at Jazan University Hospital and King Fahad Central Hospital in Jazan, Saudi Arabia, between December 2021 and July 2022. Genomic DNA was extracted from all samples and genotyped for the NLRP3 rs35829419 C>A SNP using TaqMan technology. The association between the NLRP3 rs35829419 polymorphism and T2DM was examined using logistic regression analysis.
Results: Overall genotype distributions were 90.5% (CC), 9.3% (CA), and 0.2% (AA). The heterozygous CA genotype was more frequent in T2DM group (12.2%) compared to the control group (6.5%) and logistic regression analysis showed a statically significant association with T2DM risk under codominant (CA versus CC; odds ratio [OR]=1.99; 95% confidence interval [CI]= [1.11-3.61]; =0.0270), and dominant (CA+AA versus CC; OR=2.05; CI=[1.16-3.75]; =0.019) models of inheritance.
Conclusion: This study revealed the frequency of NLRP3 rs35829419 C>A polymorphism in our population and showed a direct correlation between having the minor allele for A and having a higher risk of developing T2DM. This study highlights the significance of NLRP3 rs35829419 C>A polymorphism in the pathophysiology of T2DM.

The Zika virus (ZIKV), an arbovirus within the Flavivirus genus, is associated with severe neurological complications, including Guillain-Barré syndrome in affected individuals and microcephaly in infants born to infected mothers. With no approved vaccines or antiviral treatments available, there is an urgent need for effective therapeutic options. This study aimed to identify new natural compounds with inhibitory potential against the NS2B-NS3 protease (PDB ID: 5LC0), an essential enzyme in viral replication.

Germline inactivating mutations of the SLC25A1 gene contribute to various human disorders, including Velocardiofacial (VCFS), DiGeorge (DGS) syndromes and combined D/L-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria (D/L-2HGA), a severe systemic disease characterized by the accumulation of 2-hydroxyglutaric acid (2HG). The mechanisms by which SLC25A1 loss leads to these syndromes remain largely unclear. Here, we describe a mouse model of SLC25A1 deficiency that mimics human VCFS/DGS and D/L-2HGA.

Globally, the prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD) is increasing, accounting for a third of all deaths worldwide including myocardial infarctions (MIs) which represent the most severe clinical manifestation of CAD and are among the most dangerous coronary events. Therefore, this study aims to assess the knowledge of symptoms and risk factors of MIs, as well as attitudes and beliefs regarding MIs and confidence in recognizing CAD symptoms in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A cross-sectional study was conducted among individuals living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia between November 2023 and April 2024 to assess their knowledge and beliefs about CAD and MIs.

The world is moving towards the utilization of hydrogen vehicle technology because its advantages are uniformity in power production, more efficiency, and high durability when compared to fossil fuels. So, in this work, the Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Stack (PEMFS) device is selected for producing the energy for the hydrogen vehicle. The merits of this fuel technology are the possibility of operating less source temperature, and more suitability for stationery and transportation applications.

Phthalocyanine derivative nanostructures are highly organized organometallic structures that exhibit two-dimensional polymeric phthalocyanine frameworks. We analyze phthalocyanine using the Zagreb-type indices, which offer important insights into the topological characteristics of the molecular structure. Furthermore, we use Pearson correlation analysis to examine the degree of relationship between various structural features and qualities.
