Introduction: Kaposi sarcoma herpes virus (KSHV) is associated with several diseases including Kaposi sarcoma, a form of multicentric Castleman's disease, primary effusion lymphoma, and an inflammatory cytokine syndrome. These KSHV-associated diseases (KAD) can present with heterogenous signs and symptoms that are often associated with cytokine dysregulation that may result in multiorgan dysfunction. The inability to promptly diagnose and treat these conditions can result in long-term complications and mortality.
Areas Covered: Existing epidemiological subtypes of existing KSHV-associated diseases, specifically Kaposi sarcoma as well as the incidence of several KSHV-associated disorders are described. We review the KSHV latent and lytic phases as they correlate with KSHV-associated diseases. Given the complicated presentations, we discuss the clinical manifestations, current diagnostic criteria, existing treatment algorithms for individual KAD, and when they occur concurrently. With emerging evidence on the virus and host interactions, we evaluate novel approaches for the treatment of KAD. An extensive literature search was conducted to support these findings.
Expert Opinion: KSHV leads to complex and concurrent disease processes that are often underdiagnosed both in the United States and worldwide. New therapies that exist for many of these conditions focus on chemotherapy-sparing options that seek to target the underlying viral pathogenesis or immunotherapy strategies.

Background: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) restores cellular immunity, significantly reducing AIDS-related mortality and morbidity thus improving the quality of life among People living with HIV (PLHIV). Studies done in several countries show a decline in AIDS defining cancers (ADCs) with the introduction of ART however the increased longevity has led to the increase of Non-AIDS defining cancers (NADCs). The study was aimed at studying the changing spectrum and trends of cancer among Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) patients in southwestern Uganda.

Background: Multimorbidity is increasingly prevalent in lower- and middle-income countries. Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) has been inversely associated with multimorbidity but is understudied in lower- and middle-income countries. We report cardiovascular disease (CVD) multimorbidity in Haiti and its association with HRQOL.

Background: Human herpesvirus-8 (HHV8) can present with cutaneous or extracutaneous manifestations. While violaceous skin lesions characterize cutaneous Kaposi sarcoma, extracutaneous HHV8 is challenging to diagnose due to nonspecific symptoms.
Objectives: We evaluated the role of microbial cell-free DNA next-generation sequencing (mcfDNA NGS) in diagnosing HHV8-related illness.

Unlabelled: Non tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are important opportunistic infection in patients with AIDS.
Aim: To present 4 cases of disseminated infections by NTM in patients with AIDS.
Results: These cases were associated with prolonged symptoms of fever, weight loss, diarrhea or cough, with hepatosplenomegaly, anemia and thrombocytopenia.
