Introduction: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 infection mostly involves pediatrics lesser than adults; however, the multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children is shown to be the following condition in children infected with SARS-CoV-2, even asymptomatic ones. To date, there is few evidence of the association of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children with acute neurological symptoms.

Case Presentations: This case series was recorded demographic, clinical, laboratory, radiographic and EEG data of patients with the multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children who diagnosed simultaneously with acute neurological symptoms. Children with the multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children and evidence of central nervous system involvements participated in the study. Data are reported as median (interquartile ranges) for quantitative data without normal distributions. The present study was conducted at the children's referral hospital of Isfahan province, Iran between March 1, 2020, and December 28, 2021. Simultaneous diagnosis of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children and acute neurological symptoms was made in 12 children. The median age of patients was 4.5 years (10-144 months). The most common symptoms were seizures (58%). Cerebrospinal fluid analysis showed that only one patient had pleocytosis. In addition, one patient had a low glucose level. Finally, 11 patients were discharged in good condition and one patient died after full recovery from acute neurological symptoms due to her underlying disease.

Conclusion: According to our series and other studies, children with MIS-C may present signs and symptoms of acute neurological symptoms. Although its pathophysiology is unclear, studies showed that immunomodulatory agents, i.e., intravenous immunoglobulins and corticosteroids, provide a relatively good prognosis.

Acute thoracic disc herniation with severe spinal cord compression: a case report.

J Surg Case Rep

January 2025

Universidad Francisco Marroquín, 6A Calle final, Guatemala City 01010, Guatemala.

This case report highlights the rare presentation of an acute thoracic disc herniation in a 27-year-old male. Thoracic disc herniations are uncommon, accounting for less than 1% of all disc herniations, and acute presentations have scantly been recorded in literature. The patient, a mechanic, presented with a sudden onset of dorsal pain and bilateral lower limb weakness after lifting heavy equipment, leading to a sudden cease of most motor functions in the patient's lower limbs.

Marburg disease (malignant multiple sclerosis, MS) is a rare, acute MS variant, predominantly occurring among young adults. Because it is characterized by rarity, high morbidity and mortality rates, the disease needs to be further characterized, and the experience of the physicians play a role in treatment regimens. We report the case of a 15-years-old female presenting with progressive weakness over the limbs, hyperreflexia and loss of sensation by physical examination, lab tests and radiological investigations (MRI).

Background: Acute carbon monoxide poisoning (COP) has been a common cause of emergency hospital visits over the past decade. Besides the immediate symptoms of poisoning, carbon monoxide exposure can cause various long-term complications, especially delayed neurological sequelae (DNS) and myocardial injury (MI).

Methods: This study retrospectively enrolled 502 patients with COP, including complete collection data, from the Taiwan National Poison Control Center between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2015.

Background: Tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), a widely used flame retardant, is widespread in the environment and potentially harmful to organisms. However, the specific mechanisms of TCEP-induced neurological and reproductive toxicity in fish are largely unknown. Turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) is cultivated on a large scale, and the emergence of pollutants with endocrine disrupting effects seriously affects its economic benefits.
