Background: Climate change poses a significant threat to respiratory health, exacerbating conditions like asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and respiratory infections increasing morbidity and mortality indirectly through exposure to greenhouse gases. During the 27th Climate Change Conference (COP27), the Healthy Lung Initiative (HLI) for the early detection of COPD among smokers was launched in Egypt.

Objective: We aimed to detect the prevalence and predictors of confirmed COPD among smokers and assess physicians' adherence to prescribing pulmonary function tests (PFTs) among the COP27 conference attendees.

This study explores the complex dynamics of environmental resistance, policy stability, skill development, and green initiatives in light of the growing worldwide concerns about climate change. COP27 and the G20 Summit show that as microcosm of the global discourse, provides a unique opportunity to study it. The rapid rise in climate and ecological challenges have allowed policymakers to introduce stringent environmental policies. In addition, financial limitations may pose challenges for countries looking to green energy investments as energy transition is associated with geopolitical risks that could create uncertainty and dissuade green energy investments. The current study uses PTR and PSTR as econometric strategy to investigate how geopolitical risks and financial development indicators influence energy transition in selected industrial economies.
