AI Article Synopsis

  • - Nodular melanoma is a rapidly growing and aggressive form of skin cancer, often appearing non-cancerous but can affect mucosal areas and the trunk; this makes it significant to detect early for treatment.
  • - A 70-year-old woman presented with a suspicious skin lesion that showed irregular borders and varied colors, ultimately diagnosed as nodular polypoid melanoma after biopsy; she underwent wide excision surgery.
  • - The surgery involved removing a large tissue section, but despite the extensive procedure, the patient's recovery has been positive, demonstrating that aggressive surgery can lead to good outcomes in such cases.

Article Abstract

Introduction And Importance: Nodular melanoma is the second most frequent cutaneous melanoma worldwide and due to its rapid growth rate and non-malignant appearance, is the most aggressive one. In its polypoid form, it is usually found in mucosal areas, but can also be seen on the trunk. This case is presented because it is an unusual manifestation and surgical treatment required wide excision, however, the patient's evolution is favorable.

Case Presentation: 70-year-old female patient shows a progressively growing lesion with irregular border, abnormal color and a heterogeneous appearance. The biopsy yields the histological diagnosis of nodular polypoid melanoma. The surgical technique results in the resection of a 10 × 9 × 67 cm piece with favorable evolution of the patient.

Clinical Discussion And Conclusions: The surgical technique of margin widening is considered a recommended option for polypoid nodular back melanomas. Although the excision is considered vast, the patient's evolution may turn out to be favorable.

Background: Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is a highly lethal disease, often diagnosed with advanced locoregional and distant metastases, resulting in a median survival of just 3-5 months. This study determines the stratified effectiveness of baseline treatments in all combinations, enabling precise prognoses prediction and establishing benchmarks for advanced therapeutic options.

Methods: The study extracted a cohort of pathologically confirmed ATC patients from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program.

Background: As the population ages, the number of octogenarians with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) continues to rise. Morbidity and mortality following pancreatectomy have improved owing to safer surgery and better chemoradiation regimens. This study compares the outcomes and multimodality utilization in octogenarians (≥80 years) who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) for PDAC, with a younger cohort.

Introduction: Kidney transplantation is the preferred treatment for end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), enhancing survival and quality of life. However, kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) are at high risk for bone disorders, particularly low bone turnover disease, which increases fracture risk. Teriparatide, an anabolic agent, may provide a beneficial treatment option for these patients.

Background And Aim: Managing obesity requires a comprehensive approach that involves therapeutic lifestyle changes, medications, or metabolic surgery. Many patients seek health information from online sources and artificial intelligence models like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot before consulting health professionals. This study aims to evaluate the appropriateness of the responses of Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot to questions on pharmacologic and surgical management of obesity and assess for bias in their responses to either the ADA or AACE guidelines.

Objectives: In advanced stages of osteoradionecrosis, medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, and osteomyelitis, a resection of sections of the mandible may be unavoidable. The determination of adequate bony resection margins is a fundamental problem because bony resection margins cannot be secured intraoperatively. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT-CT) is more accurate than conventional imaging techniques in detecting inflammatory jaw pathologies.
