Hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) is a life-threatening complication of chronic liver disease (CLD) that currently can be managed only by liver transplant. Though uncommon, some children with kidney disease have coexistent CLD and hence are at risk of developing HPS. Paediatric cases of HPS are rarely described in the nephrology literature.

Infectious diabetic wounds pose an arduous threat to contemporary healthcare. The combination of refractory biofilms, persistent inflammation, and retarded angiogenesis can procure non-unions and life-threatening complications, calling for advanced therapeutics potent to orchestrate anti-infective effectiveness, benign biocompatibility, pro-reparative immunomodulation, and angiogenic regeneration. Herein, embracing the emergent "living bacterial therapy" paradigm, a designer probiotic-in-hydrogel wound dressing platform is demonstrated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPercutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL) is an effective therapeutic approach in cases of lithiasis, which is prone to complications. In this report we present a case of a 52-year-old female patient with recurrent episodes of lithiasis and, after PCNL, evolution with pain and abdominal distension on the 2nd post-operative day due to a perforation of the gallbladder. An exploratory laparotomy was performed, leading to clinical improvement, and the patient was discharged from the hospital on the 7th day after resolving the choleperitoneum.

Local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST) is a well-known life-threatening local anesthetics complication, especially if given in inappropriate doses or routes. Therefore, physicians should be aware of LAST symptoms, such as neurological and cardiac symptoms. In addition, they should always consider it in the differential diagnosis when they encounter similar symptoms.
