It is shown that the operating temperature of pellistors for the detection of methane can be reduced to 300 °C by using Au-Pd nanoparticles on mesoporous cobalt oxide (Au-Pd@meso-CoO). The aim is to reduce possible catalyst poisoning that occurs during the high-temperature operation of conventional Pd-based pellistors, which are usually operated at 450 °C or higher. The individual role of Au-Pd as well as CoO in terms of their catalytic activity has been investigated. Above 300 °C, Au-Pd bimetallic particles are mainly responsible for the catalytic combustion of methane. However, below 300 °C, only the CoO has a catalytic effect. In contrast to methane, the sensor response and the temperature increase of the sensor under propane exposure is much larger than for methane due to the larger heat of combustion of propane. Due to its lower activation energy requirement, propane exhibits a higher propensity for oxidation compared to methane. As a result, the detection of propane can be achieved at even lower temperatures due to its enhanced reactivity.

A versatile and efficient chemo selective synthesis of 4-aryl-3-formyl-2H-chromenes (AFC) was undertaken using Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling conditions. The key oxidative transmetalation was successfully applied to a significant range of substitutions on the chromene moiety and aryl ring in Ar(BOH), accommodating both electron-rich and electron-deficient groups. These π-extended scaffolds exhibited green-yellow fluorescence with a large Stokes shift and high quantum yield.

Understanding the tertiary structures of proteins is of great benefit to function in many aspects of human life. Protein fold recognition is a vital and salient means to know protein structure. Until now, researchers have successively proposed a variety of methods to realize protein fold recognition, but the novel and effective computational method is still needed to handle this problem with the continuous updating of protein structure databases.

Background: Diabetes is a common chronic metabolic disease. The progression of the disease promotes vascular inflammation and the formation of atherosclerosis, leading to cardiovascular disease. The coronary artery perivascular adipose tissue attenuation index based on CCTA is a new noninvasive imaging biomarker that reflects the spatial changes in perivascular adipose tissue attenuation in CCTA images and the inflammation around the coronary arteries.

Hypertension remains a leading cause of cardiovascular and kidney diseases. Failure to control blood pressure with ≥ 3 medications or control requiring ≥ 4 medications is classified as resistant hypertension (rHTN) and new therapies are needed to reduce the resulting increased risk of morbidity and mortality. Here, we report genetic evidence that relaxin family peptide receptor 2 (RXFP2) is associated with rHTN in men, but not in women.

Department of Clinical Laboratory, Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University, No.9677 Jing-Shi Road, Jinan, 250021, Shandong, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focused on the genomic characteristics of two clinical strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae, both of which are resistant to key antibiotics, colistin and tigecycline, and carry specific resistance genes (mcr-8.1 and tmexCD1-toprJ1).
  • The strains, isolated from different patients, were analyzed using various methods like antimicrobial susceptibility testing, whole-genome sequencing, and bioinformatics to understand their resistance mechanisms and plasmid structures.
  • Results showed that the strains displayed extensive multidrug resistance, with distinct plasmid structures facilitating gene transfer, indicating a concerning trend of antibiotic resistance driven by genetic rearrangements.
