The tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum, G. Cuvier 1818) thrives both in the ion-poor waters of the Amazon and in commercial aquaculture. In both, environmental conditions can be harsh due to low ion levels, occasional high salt challenges (in aquaculture), low pH, extreme PO levels (hypoxia and hyperoxia), high PCO levels (hypercapnia), high ammonia levels (in aquaculture), and high and low temperatures.

We presented a method to find potential cancer attractors using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data. We tested our method in a Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) dataset, an aggressive brain tumor presenting high heterogeneity. Using the cancer attractor concept, we argued that the GBM's underlying dynamics could partially explain the observed heterogeneity, with the dataset covering a representative region around the attractor.

Article Synopsis
  • * However, only 41.7% of these records are in fully protected zones, and 27% of species have less than half their records in PAs, indicating some are entirely unprotected.
  • * Notably, 42.6% of critically endangered butterflies are found outside PAs, with almost all records occurring in the highly threatened Atlantic Forest and Cerrado ecosystems, underscoring the need for better conservation efforts.

Understanding the mechanical characteristics of rocks when subjected to direct tension is crucial for assessing the stability of rock formations. Within the scope of this research, a series of tests was conducted using Tage tuff to assess the deformation behavior and crack extension of rock under direct tension. The axial, lateral, and shear strain fields as well as crack propagation, localized deformation behavior, and failure mode of the rocks were analyzed using three-dimensional digital image correlation method.

Article Synopsis
  • - Incarcerated women face severe health risks, particularly high rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like HPV, which can lead to serious complications in the female reproductive system.
  • - A study of 299 women in a São Paulo prison found a 62.2% prevalence of HPV, with a significant percentage of high-risk strains, along with a 72.8% prevalence of other STIs, indicating a critical public health issue.
  • - The findings suggest that there is a need for enhanced health policies in Brazil targeting female prisoners, including better screening and treatment strategies to reduce STI incidence and prevent cervical cancer.
