Inferior scapula avulsion fractures are rare injuries, with few cases reported and only a small number managed operatively discussed in the literature. We report the case of a man in his 40s who fell from a height and presented with right-sided scapular winging and point tenderness at the inferior pole of his right scapula with no neurological deficit. Radiographs and CT diagnosed avulsion fracture of the inferior scapula. The patient underwent surgical fixation and, following a course of physiotherapy, successfully recovered with no residual winging and full range of movement.

Background: Cysticercosis, a parasitic infection caused by the larval stages of the pork tapeworm, Taenia solium, predominantly affects cerebral and ocular tissues. The subcutaneous manifestation of this disease is a relatively uncommon clinical occurrence. A 59-year-old man presented with a mass and pain in the left side of his back for 6 months. 18F-FDG PET/CT demonstrated increased FDG uptake in the inferior aspect of his left scapula and the left hepatic lobe, highly suggesting the possibility of hepatic malignancy with solitary scapula metastasis. Finally, solitary scapula metastasis from intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma was confirmed.

Background: Patient-specific three-dimensional (3D) printed anatomic models are valuable clinical tools that facilitate enhanced visualization of pertinent anatomic structures and have demonstrated benefits of reduced surgical times, increased surgeon confidence, and improved operative results and subsequent patient outcomes. Medical image-based 3D printed anatomic models are generally created from computed tomography (CT), however magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which offers exquisite soft tissue characterization and flexible contrast avoiding the use of ionizing radiation, is an attractive alternative. Herein, the application of 3D printing incorporating both MR neurography and zero-echo time (ZTE) MRI for visualization of the brachial plexus anatomy in a subject with thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is described.
