Recent studies suggested intrathecal vasodilator administration as a therapy to mitigate post-ischemic cerebral hypoperfusion following cardiac arrest. We examined the effects of two commonly used intrathecal vasodilators, sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and nicardipine, on cerebral pial microcirculation, cortical tissue oxygen tension (PctO2), and electrocortical activity in the early post-resuscitation period using a porcine model of cardiac arrest. Thirty pigs were resuscitated after 14 min of untreated cardiac arrest.

Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) significantly affect patient quality of life. Treatment options for bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) (a common cause of LUTS) are insufficient to relieve discomfort. As the incidence of BPH is increasing, new pharmacological targets for LUTS treatment are required.

Neuropathic pain is a debilitating complication following spinal cord injury (SCI). Currently, effective treatments for SCI-induced neuropathic pain are highly lacking. This clinical trial aimed to investigate the efficacy of combined intrathecal injection of Schwann cells (SCs) and bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in improving SCI-induced neuropathic pain.

Refractory cancer pain affects 10-20% of patients with advanced malignancies and is not adequately controlled by opioids. The intrathecal therapy is an effective interventional procedure for referral, but the implanted infusion pumps are costly and the refilling requires technical expertise. Hypophysectomy, in its three stages-surgical, chemical, and radiosurgical-has emerged as an alternative for managing this pain.
