Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder associated with a decline in memory deficits and neuropathological diagnosis with loss of cholinergic neurons in the brains of older adults. Based on these facts and an increasing number of involved people worldwide, this investigation aimed to study the improvement of memory and cognitive impairments via an anticholinergic approach of thiazolidine-2,4-diones (TZDs) in the scopolamine-induced model of Alzheimer type in adult male Wistar rats ( = 40). The results indicated data analysis obtained from and tests for ()-5-(3-hydroxybenzylidene)-3-(2-oxo-2-phenylethyl)thiazolidine-2,4-dione (TZ3O) (2 and 4 mg/kg) with the meta-hydroxy group and ()-5-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-3-(2-oxo-2-phenylethyl)thiazolidine-2,4-dione (TZ4M) (2 and 3 mg/kg) with the para-methoxy group showed a neuroprotective effect. TZ3O and TZ4M alleviated the scopolamine-induced cognitive decline of the Alzheimer model in adult male Wistar rats. These initial and noteworthy results could be assumed as a starting point for the evolution of new anti-Alzheimer agents.

Distinct molecular subtypes of muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) may show different platinum sensitivities. Currently available data were mostly generated at transcriptome level and have limited comparability to each other. We aimed to determine the platinum sensitivity of molecular subtypes by using the protein expression-based Lund Taxonomy.

Prospective study on the role of preoperative mannitol in capsulorhexis and reducing intraoperative complications in primary angle-closure disease surgery.

J Int Med Res

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, Peking University People's Hospital; Eye Diseases and Optometry Institute; Beijing Key Laboratory of Diagnosis and Therapy of Retinal and Choroid Diseases; College of Optometry, Peking University Health Science Center. Address: No. 11 Xizhimen South Street, Xicheng District, Beijing, China.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of preoperative intravenous mannitol on the capsulorhexis process and intraoperative complications in patients with primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG).

Methods: In this prospective randomized controlled trial, 65 PACG eyes were randomized into the mannitol and control groups. The capsulorhexis duration, number of forceps grasps, need for viscoelastic re-injection, and intraoperative complications were recorded.

BACKGROUND The thyroglossal duct cyst, which develops from the midline migratory tract between the foramen cecum and the anatomic location of the thyroid, is the most prevalent congenital abnormality of the neck, accounting for about 70% of all cervical neck masses in children and 7% in adults. Only up to 1% of these abnormalities contain malignant thyroid tissue, with 90% of those cases being papillary thyroid carcinoma. Thyroglossal duct cyst is rarely linked to carcinoma.

Background: Sexual harassment (SH) and Gender discrimination (GD) faced by medical students have been neglected areas of study in India. Only a few recent studies could be found, despite frequent media reports on SH and GD. This study aimed to assess the attitudes and perceptions of sexual harassment and gender discrimination and evaluate the forms of SH and GD experienced by them.

Purpose: Research suggests that insulin resistance (IR) is associated with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and depression. The use of insulin-based IR assessments is complicated. Therefore, we explored the relationship between four non-insulin-based IR indices and post-stroke depression (PSD).
