Purpose: To evaluate the short-term clinical efficacy of hip arthroscopy combined with catheter irrigation and drainage in the treatment of brucellosis of the hip.

Methods: From 2015 to 2020, 11 patients with a diagnosis of brucellosis-induced unilateral hip joint arthritis were treated with arthroscopic debridement and lesion synovectomy. Catheterization was performed during the operation, and normal saline lavage was continued after the operation. A regimen of doxycycline plus rifampicin, plus a third-generation cephalosporin in cases of refractory infections, were used for three months.

Results: The rate of positive synovial bacterial culture during the operation was 91% (10/11). Postoperative pathological examination of 11 patients showed purulent arthritis; this result combined with the disease history led to the diagnosis of all patients with brucellosis of the hip. All patients were followed up for more than 24 months. From three months after surgery to the last follow-up, both ESR and CPR were within the normal range, but the VAS score decreased significantly (P < 0.05), and the mHHS and HOS-ADL scores increased significantly (P < 0.01). Compared with that on preoperative imaging, the measurement of the hip joint space on imaging at the last follow-up showed no significant change (P > 0.01).

Conclusion: Arthroscopic treatment of brucellosis in the hip joint not only preserves the joint fluid and lesion tissue for a clear diagnosis but also allows thorough removal of the infected and injured tissue during surgery. Hip arthroscopy combined with postoperative tube irrigation and drainage is an effective method for the diagnosis and treatment of brucellosis in the hip joint.

Background: Tuberculous spondylitis (TS) and brucellar spondylitis (BS) exhibit certain similarities in clinical presentation and imaging characteristics, making differential diagnosis challenging. Developing a reliable differential diagnosis model can assist clinicians in distinguishing between these two conditions at an early stage, allowing for targeted prevention and treatment strategies.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with TS and BS were retrospectively collected and randomized into training and validation cohorts (ratio 7:3).

Effective management of brucellosis in human populations is closely tied to controlling the disease in domestic livestock. This study focused on identifying determinants of brucellosis prevalence in mixed industrial dairy and beef cattle farms within Isfahan Province, Iran. Employing a case control design, we compared 32 ranches with documented brucellosis within the previous year (12 months) to 38 farms with no brucellosis during the same timeframe.

Bovine brucellosis and bovine tuberculosis are zoonotic diseases with economic and public health importance across the world, especially in developing countries where the diseases are endemic. The diseases are classified as neglected diseases in developing nations with poor resources despite good control measures in some developed countries. The purpose of this study is to assess the knowledge, attitudes and perceptions (KAP) of stakeholders towards control measures for bovine brucellosis (BR) and bovine tuberculosis (bTB) at a livestock-wildlife interface.

Brucellosis has therapeutic challenges due to 3%-15% relapses/therapeutic failures (R/TF) after antibiotic treatment. Therefore, determining the antibiotic concentration in tissues, the physiopathological parameters, and the R/TF after treatment is relevant. After exploring different antibiotic quantities, we found that a combined dose of 100 µg/g of doxycycline (for 45 days) and 7.

Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease that causes high rates of morbidity and mortality due to difficulties in diagnosis and inadequate treatment. The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic significance of presepsin, trigger receptor expressed on soluble myeloid cells-1 (sTREM-1), and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) levels in patients with brucellosis. One hundred twenty-one brucellosis patients aged 18 or over and 39 healthy volunteers were included in this prospective study.
