Vertical ridge augmentation in the anterior mandible is a technically delicate procedure that requires knowledge of some anatomical structures to reduce intra- and postoperative complications. Proper soft tissue management is one of the primary aspects to the success of these techniques, enabling tension-free primary wound closure and preventing membrane exposure. This cadaveric and clinical study provides an anatomical overview of the lingual portion of the anterior mandible. Moreover, there is a description of a novel surgical approach for release of the lingual flap that will help clinicians achieve primary closure without incurring intrasurgical complications.

: The aim of this study is to identify the most accurate and consistent landmarks for determining the precise location of the mandibular foramen (MF) and the mandibular ramus, suggesting appropriate adjustments to anesthesia techniques based on these variations in order to improve the success rate of the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) block. : CT scans of the mandibles from 100 patients were analyzed to measure the distance between the MF and various landmarks, including the sigmoid notch, gonion, posterior and anterior margins of the ramus, temporal crest, and the mandibular ramus height from the condyle to the gonion. The width of the mandibular ramus was also assessed, with correlations made to age and gender.

This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the difference in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) space volume between the deviated (Dev) and non-deviated (NDev) side following transoral vertical ramus osteotomy (TOVRO) in patients with mandibular prognathism combined with asymmetry using reconstructed 3-dimensional images. Sixty joints from 30 patients who underwent TOVRO between January 2018 and December 2021 were included. Computed tomography (CT) or cone-beam CT was performed before surgery (T0), and 6 (T1) and 12 months postoperatively (T2).

An 18-year-old Chinese woman presented with chief complaints of crowded teeth and mild mandibular prognathism. Clinical and imaging examinations revealed a concave profile, a protruded chin, increased lower anterior facial height mild, skeletal Class III and Angle's Class III malocclusion, with anterior crossbites, and crowded teeth. Extraction camouflaged therapy combined with miniscrews skeletal anchorage was employed to relieve crowding and retract the mandibular anterior teeth.

To explore the changes of atlantoaxial joint spaces and pharyngeal airway after combined orthodontic-orthognathic treatment in skeletal class Ⅲ patients with mandibular deviation. A total of 34 adult skeletal class Ⅲ patients (10 males and 24 females) with mandibular deviation who received combined orthodontic-orthognathic treatment at the Department of Orthodontics and the Department of Orthognathic Surgery in the Stomatological Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from August 2014 to October 2021 were retrospectively selected. The patients were 22 (5) years old (18-33 years).
