Hydrogenation reactions are staple transformations commonly used across scientific fields to synthesise pharmaceuticals, natural products, and various functional materials. However, the vast majority of these reactions require the use of a toxic and costly catalyst leading to unpractical, hazardous and often functionally limited conditions. Herein, we report a new, general, practical, efficient, mild and high-yielding hydrogen-free electrochemical method for the reduction of alkene, alkyne, nitro and azido groups. Finally, this method has been applied to deuterium labelling.

Flame retardants could improve the safety properties of lithium batteries (LBs) with the sacrifice of electrochemical performance due to parasitic reactions. To concur with this, we designed thermal-response clothes for hexachlorophosphazene (HCP) additives by the microcapsule technique with urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin as the shell. HCP@UF combines with polyacrylonitrile (PAN) by hydrogen bonds successfully to form PAN-HCP@UF as the flame-retardant solid polymer electrolyte.

Graphene nanomesh (GNM), an emerging graphene nanostructure with a tunable bandgap, has gained tremendous interests owing to its great potentials in the fields of high-performance field-effect transistors, electrochemical sensors, new generation of spintronics and energy converters. In previous works, GNM has been successfully obtained on copper foil surface by employing hydrogen as an etching agent. A more facile, and low-cost strategy for the preparation of GNM is required.

Article Synopsis
  • Developing rechargeable zinc batteries faces issues like dendritic growth and hydrogen production on zinc-metal anodes, which hinder their practical use.
  • A new nonaqueous electrolyte using zinc acetate and dimethyl sulfoxide allows for a dendrite-free and hydrogen-free zinc-metal anode that achieves a high Coulombic efficiency of 99.6% over 300 cycles.
  • This research offers insights into a uniform zinc plating process and shows promising electrochemical performance in Zn||Mo S full cells, paving the way for improved rechargeable zinc batteries.

Decavanadate (VO or V10) is a paradigmatic member of the polyoxidometalate (POM) family, which has been attracting much attention within both materials/inorganic and biomedical communities due to its unique structural and electrochemical properties. In this work we explored the utility of high-resolution electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry (MS) and ion exclusion chromatography LC/MS for structural analysis of V10 species in aqueous solutions. While ESI generates abundant molecular ions representing the intact V10 species, their isotopic distributions show significant deviations from the theoretical ones.
