The acute-phase reactant, C-reactive protein, is a good index of disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. We examined the murine acute-phase reactant, serum amyloid P, as an index of disease in type II collagen-induced arthritis in 3 mouse strains. The onset of type II collagen-induced arthritis, which is characterized by paw swelling, is associated with a significant, but transient, elevation of serum amyloid P. Anticollagen antibody titers are not temporally associated with the onset of disease. Although murine type II collagen arthritis fails to show the chronic acute-phase reactant elevation that is characteristic of arthritis in humans, the transient elevation of the acute-phase reactant is a reliable indicator of the onset of disease.

Unlabelled: LCN2 has an osteokine important for appetite regulation; in type 2 diabetes (T2D) it is not known whether appetite regulation mediated by LCN2 in the brain is altered. In this work, we focus on exploring the role of blocking LCN2 in metabolic health and appetite regulation within the central nervous system of mice with T2D.
Material And Methods: 4-week-old male C57BL/6 mice were used, divided into four experimental groups: intact, T2D, TD2/anti-LCN2, and T2D/IgG as isotype control.
Background: The aim of this study was to explore the clinical value of serum procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in evaluating complications after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in patients with common bile duct (CBD) stones.
Methods: Patients who were diagnosed with CBD stones and underwent ERCP from December 2021 to December 2023 were selected as the study subjects. According to whether postoperative complications occurred, they were divided into complication group (n = 28) and non-complication group (n = 132).
Background: Transfusion-associated hypotension (TAH) is characterized by the abrupt onset of hypotension immediately after the start of transfusion and usually resolves when transfusion ceases. The pathogenesis of TAH is not yet fully understood.
Methods: A 36-year-old woman underwent exploratory laparotomy and cesarean section due to cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
Background: The aim of this study was to explore the clinical application value of serum inflammatory markers in the diagnosis and treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in elderly men.
Methods: From April 2023 through July 2023, 110 BPH patients and 120 healthy individuals who underwent examinations at our hospital were selected as study subjects. The concentrations of C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), serum amyloid A (SAA), complement 3 (C3), and complement 4 (C4) were measured in both groups.

Objectives: To evaluate the role of serum procalcitonin (PCT) as a diagnostic tool to differentiate bacterial sepsis from flare-ups during febrile episodes in children with known rheumatic disorders compared to other inflammatory markers like C-reactive protein (CRP), and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).
Methods: Previously diagnosed patients with known rheumatic disorders presenting in emergency or outpatient departments with febrile episodes were included in the study. Blood samples were collected upon admission to test for signs of infection, including serum PCT levels with routine laboratory and radiological tests.
