Substitutionally doped 2D transition metal dichalcogenides are primed for next-generation device applications such as field effect transistors (FET), sensors, and optoelectronic circuits. In this work, we demonstrate substitutional rhenium (Re) doping of MoS monolayers with controllable concentrations down to 500 ppm by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). Surprisingly, we discover that even trace amounts of Re lead to a reduction in sulfur site defect density by 5-10×. models indicate the origin of the reduction is an increase in the free-energy of sulfur-vacancy formation at the MoS growth-front when Re is introduced. Defect photoluminescence (PL) commonly seen in undoped MOCVD MoS is suppressed by 6× at 0.05 atomic percent (at. %) Re and completely quenched with 1 at. % Re. Furthermore, we find that Re-MoS transistors exhibit a 2× increase in drain current and carrier mobility compared to undoped MoS, indicating that sulfur vacancy reduction improves carrier transport in the Re-MoS. This work provides important insights on how dopants affect 2D semiconductor growth dynamics, which can lead to improved crystal quality and device performance.

The rational design of multicomponent heterostructure is an effective strategy to enhance the catalytic activity of electrocatalysts for water and seawater electrolysis in alkaline conditions. Herein, MOF-derived nitrogen-doped carbon/nickel-cobalt sulfides coupled vertically aligned Rhenium disulfide (ReS) on carbon cloth (NC-CoNiS@ReS/CC) are constructed via hydrothermal and activation approaches. Experimental and theoretical analysis demonstrates that the strong interactions between multiple interfaces promote electron redistribution and facilitate water dissociation, thereby optimizing *H adsorption energy for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER).

Although the theoretical electrocatalytic activity of rhenium (Re) for the hydrogen evolution reaction is comparable to that of platinum, the experimental performance of reported rhenium-based electrocatalysts remains unsatisfactory. Herein, we report a highly efficient and stable electrocatalyst composed of rhenium and cobalt (Co) nanoalloy embedded in nitrogen-doped carbon film (ReCo@NCF). The ReCo@NCF electrocatalyst exhibited remarkable hydrogen evolution performance, with an overpotential as low as 30 ± 3 mV to reach a current density of 10 mA cm.

Designing a multifunctional device that combines solar energy conversion and energy storage is an appealing and promising approach for the next generation of green power and sustainable society. In this work, we fabricated a single-piece device incorporating undoped WSe, Re- or Nb-doped WSe photocathode, and zinc foil anode system enabling a light-assisted rechargeable aqueous zinc metal cell. Comparison of structural, optical, and photoelectric characteristics of undoped and doped WSe has further confirmed that ionic insertion of donor metal (rhenium and niobium) plays an important role in enhancing photoelectrochemical energy storage properties.

Pertechnetate (TcO), a physiologically toxic radioactive anion, is of great concern due to its high mobility in environmental contamination remediation. Although the soluble oxyanion can be photoreduced to sparingly soluble TcO·HO, its effective removal from a strongly acidic aqueous solution remains a challenge. Here, we found that low-crystalline nitrogen-doped titanium oxide (N-TiO, 0.

Atrazine (ATZ) is a widely used herbicide that can cause serious harm to organisms and ecosystems. An immobilization-free photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor has been herein developed for ATZ based on aptamer molecular gate functionalized mesoporous SiO@MB controlled release system. Compared with traditional immobilization-based sensors, immobilization-free sensors (IFSs) avoid the modification of the recognition element on the electrode surface.
