The processing and analysis of synchrotron data can be a complex task, requiring specialized expertise and knowledge. Our previous work addressed the challenge of X-ray emission spectrum (XES) data processing by developing a standalone application using unsupervised machine learning. However, the task of analyzing the processed spectra remains another challenge. Although the non-resonant Kβ XES of 3d transition metals are known to provide electronic structure information such as oxidation and spin state, finding appropriate parameters to match experimental data is a time-consuming and labor-intensive process. Here, a new XES data analysis method based on the genetic algorithm is demonstrated, applying it to Mn, Co and Ni oxides. This approach is also implemented as a standalone application, Argonne X-ray Emission Analysis 2 (AXEAP2), which finds a set of parameters that result in a high-quality fit of the experimental spectrum with minimal intervention. AXEAP2 is able to find a set of parameters that reproduce the experimental spectrum, and provide insights into the 3d electron spin state, 3d-3p electron exchange force and Kβ emission core-hole lifetime.

Mesoporous silica exhibits a diverse range of applications owing to its pore structure and inter-pore correlation. Consequently, quantitative characterization of its mesoscopic structure is extremely crucial to reciprocate its potential applications. In this work, we utilized the chemical and aerosol routes to successfully synthesize granular, porous silica with an average pore size in the range of ∼5-10 nm and different degrees of structural correlation among its pores.

Staging of pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma is currently based on the Ann Arbor classification, incorporating the Cotswold modifications and the Lugano classification. The Cotswold modifications provide guidelines for the use of CT and MRI. The Lugano classification emphasizes the importance of CT and PET/CT in evaluating both Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma but focuses on adult patients.

Plant chemical composition is a trait gaining increasing importance in plant ecology. However, there is limited research on the patterns and drivers of its variation among different plant functional groups and bioclimatic regions. We conducted an analysis of ionomes utilising X-ray fluorescence on 83 plant species from four distinct functional groups (grasses, legumes, forbs and woody species); we marked plots across 15 sites located in both the desert and Mediterranean bioclimatic regions.

The unique optical properties of perovskite quantum dots (PQDs), particularly the tunable photoluminescence (PL) across the visible spectrum, make them a promising tool for chlorinated detection. However, the correlation between the fluorescence emission shift behavior and the interface of phase transformation in PQDs has not been thoroughly explored. In this study, we synthesized CsPbBr PQDs via the hot-injection method and demonstrated their ability to detect chlorinated volatile compounds such as HCl and NaOCl through a halide exchange process between the PQDs' solid thin film and the chlorinated vapor phase.

Direct current magnetron sputtering was employed to fabricate In-N dual-doped SnO films, with varying concentrations of N in a mixed sputtering gas of N and argon (Ar). The quantity of -substituted O elements in the SnO lattice was confirmed through energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). A comprehensive investigation of properties of the In-N dual-doped SnO films was conducted using various techniques, including X-ray diffraction analysis, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy, Hall effect measurements, and current-voltage (-) characteristic assessments.
