Resveratrol, a bioactive phytoalexin, has been extensively studied as a pharmaceutical and nutraceutical candidate for the treatment of various diseases. Although its therapeutic effects have been largely attributed to its anti-oxidant properties, its underlying mechanisms and dose dependency are not well understood. Recent studies have shown that cell-free chromatin particles (cfChPs), which are released daily from billions of dying cells, can enter circulation and be internalized by healthy cells, wherein they trigger various damaging effects, including double-strand DNA breaks.

Resveratrol Alleviates NEFA-Induced Oxidative Damage in Bovine Mammary Epithelial Cells by Restoring Mitochondrial Function.

Animals (Basel)

In periparturient dairy cows, high non-esterified fatty acids (NEFAs) caused by a severe negative energy balance induce oxidative stress and metabolic dysfunction, which pose a severe challenge to the dairy industry. Resveratrol (RES) is a polyphenolic compound with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and multiple other physiological effects. However, its effect on oxidative damage triggered by NEFAs in bovine mammary epithelial cells is rarely reported.

Extensive uses of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) in different industries result in exposure to these nanoparticle imperatives in our daily lives. Resveratrol is found in many plants as a natural compound. The present study aimed to estimate the renal toxic effects of Ag NPs in adult male albino rats and the underlying relevant mechanisms while studying the possible role of resveratrol in ameliorating these effects.

Polydatin (PD), a glucoside derivative of resveratrol (RES), is extracted as a monomer compound from the dried rhizome of Polygonum cuspidatum. Our laboratory synthesized PD via the biotransformation of resveratrol. To assess the reproductive protective effects of PD, an oligozoospermia mouse model was induced by administering 30 mg/kg busulfan (BUS) via intraperitoneal injection.
