Super-refractory status epilepticus (SRSE) is defined as status epilepticus that persists or recurs after treatment with anesthetic agents for more than 24 hours, including cases with recurrent seizures on reduction or withdrawal of anesthetic drugs. Super-refractory status epilepticus presents a significant challenge for neurologists, particularly when standard treatments fail to achieve seizure control. Lacosamide, which has a unique mechanism involving modulating voltage-gated sodium channels by enhancing their slow inactivation, has emerged as a potential option for managing SRSE.

Photodynamic bactericidal nanomaterials in food packaging: From principle to application.

J Food Sci

January 2025

Shandong Peanut Research Institute, Key Laboratory of Peanut Biology and Breeding, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Qingdao, PR China.

Compared to traditional preservatives, photodynamic inactivation (PDI) offers a promising bactericidal approach due to its nontoxic nature and low propensity for microbial resistance. In this paper, we initially investigate the principles and antibacterial mechanisms underlying PDI. We then review factors influencing PDI's germicidal efficacy in food preservation.

Multifunctional porphyrinic metal-organic framework-based nanoplatform regulating reactive oxygen species achieves efficient imaging-guided cascaded nanocatalytic therapy.

The integration of reactive oxygen species (ROS) related photodynamic therapy (PDT) with the strategy of reshaping the tumor microenvironment (TME) has emerged as a potential approach for nanodiagnostic and therapeutic interventions. However, the therapeutic efficacy based on ROS treatments may be hindered by intracellular antioxidants such as glutathione (GSH) and tumor hypoxia. To address these challenges, a nanoplatform based on GSH-responsive multifunctional porphyrinic metal-organic framework (PCN-224@Au@MnO@HA, PAMH) was proposed.

The immobilisation of essential oil components (EOCs) on food-grade supports is a promising strategy for preserving liquid foods without the drawbacks of direct EOC addition such as poor solubility, high volatility, and sensory alterations. This study presents a novel method for covalently immobilising EOCs, specifically thymol and carvacrol, on SiO particles (5-15 µm) using the Mannich reaction. This approach simplifies conventional covalent immobilisation techniques by reducing the steps and reagents while maintaining antimicrobial efficacy and preventing compound migration.

is a Gram-positive bacterium causing listeriosis, a severe infection responsible for significant morbidity and mortality globally. Its persistence on food processing surfaces via biofilm formation presents a major challenge, as conventional sanitizers and antimicrobials exhibit limited efficacy against biofilm-embedded cells. This study investigates a novel approach combining an engineered polysaccharide-degrading enzyme (CAase) with a bacteriocin (thermophilin 110) produced by .
