Evidence for recombination between mitochondrial (mt) minichromosomes has been reported in sucking lice, but it is still not clear how frequent mt minichromosomal recombination occurs. We sequenced the mt genomes of the cattle louse and the goat louse Both species have 10 mt minichromosomes, and seven of them have the same gene content and gene arrangement. Comparison of mt karyotypes revealed numerous inter-minichromosomal recombination events in the evolution of species. Minichromosome merger, gene duplication and gene translocation occurred in the lineage leading to lice. After the divergence of and , duplication, degeneration, deletion and translocation of genes also occurred independently in each species. Most of the recombination events in the species occurred upstream of either or , indicating these two locations were hotspots for inter-minichromosomal recombination. Our results provide an important perspective on mt genome evolution in metazoans.

Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, a model green alga for expressing foreign proteins, faces challenges in multigene expression and enhancing protein expression level in the chloroplast. To address these challenges, we compared heterologous promoters, terminators and intercistronic expression elements (IEEs). We transformed Chlamydomonas chloroplast with a biolistic approach to introduce vectors containing the NanoLuc expression unit regulated by Chlamydomonas or tobacco promoters and terminators.

Unlabelled: The persistence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) is a key obstacle for HBV cure. This study aims to comprehensively assess the effect of interferon (IFN) and small-interfering RNA (siRNA) combination on the cccDNA minichromosome. Utilizing both cell and mouse cccDNA models, we compared the inhibitory effects of IFNα, siRNA, and their combination on cccDNA activity and assessed its epigenetic state.

Crop disease pandemics are often driven by asexually reproducing clonal lineages of plant pathogens that reproduce asexually. How these clonal pathogens continuously adapt to their hosts despite harboring limited genetic variation, and in absence of sexual recombination remains elusive. Here, we reveal multiple instances of horizontal chromosome transfer within pandemic clonal lineages of the blast fungus Magnaporthe (Syn.
