One hundred forty-six pregnant women were enrolled in a prospective double-blind study to assess the effectiveness and side-effects of antenatal administration of betamethasone in the prevention of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in potentially premature infants. On admission to the study, the women were given, at random, either 12 mg of betamethasone or placebo. The same dose was repeated 24 hours later and then weekly up to 34 weeks of gestation. Gestational age of the infants ranged from 25 to 34 weeks, and birth weights ranged between 730 and 2,650 gm. Statistically significant differences in favor of the infants in the betamethasone group were found in the incidence of RDS, 20.7% in the betamethasone group compared with 59.5% in the control group (P less than .005); in the severity of RDS (P less than .05); and in the death rate (P less than .05). A higher incidence of hypoglycemia was found among infants in the betamethasone group (P less than .05). Prolonged rupture of the membranes played no protective role against RDS, and the incidence of infection was similar in both groups.

Intrauterine adhesion (IUA) is an endometrial damage repair disorder that leads to menstrual loss, amenorrhea, and infertility in women; therefore, addressing this dilemma is a critical challenge. In this study, a multifunctional hydrogel, comprising oxidized sodium alginate (OSA), strontium carbonate (SrCO), and betamethasone 21-phosphate sodium (BSP), was formulated to facilitate angiogenesis, reduce fibrosis, and support tissue repair in the treatment of IUA. The composite hydrogels showed significant bioactivity on human endometrial stromal cells (HESCs) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), promoting the injured HESCs repair, reversing the degree of fibrosis to a certain extent, and enhancing the proliferation and migration of HUVECs.

Objective: The aim of this study was to comprehensively investigate the clinical efficacy of intraoperative local joint injection and intramuscular injection of betamethasone in patients with severe traumatic knee osteoarthritis (KOA).
Methods: 80 patients with severe traumatic KOA undergoing total knee arthroplasty were retrospectively recruited and rolled into S1 group (intra-articular injection of ropivacaine + betamethasone and isotonic saline mixture at joint incision), S2 group (muscle local injection of betamethasone before incision closure, simultaneously intra-articular injection of ropivacaine + isotonic saline mixture at joint incision), and D group (intra-articular injection of ropivacaine + isotonic saline mixture at the joint incision). Visual analog scale (VAS) score, serum inflammatory factors (IFs), hospital for special surgery (HSS)score, Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), and adverse reaction events (AREs) were analyzed.
