This article develops a colorimetric equation and a colorimetric model to create a smartphone application that identifies the ripening stage of the lady finger banana (LFB) (, กล้วยไข่ "gluay kai" in Thai). The mobile application photographs an LFB, automatically analyzes the color of the banana, and tells the user the number of days until the banana ripens and the number of days the banana will remain edible. The application is called the Automatic Banana Ripeness Indicator (ABRI, pronounced like "Aubrey"), and the rapid analysis that it provides is useful to anyone involved in the storage and distribution of bananas. The colorimetric equation interprets the skin color with the CIE L*a*b* color model in conjunction with the Pythagorean theorem. The colorimetric model has three parts. First, COCO-SSD object detection locates and identifies the banana in the image. Second, the Automatic Power-Law Transformation, developed here, adjusts the illumination to a standard derived from the average of a set of laboratory images. After removing the image background and converting the image to L*a*b*, the data are sent to the colorimetric equation to calculate the ripening stage. Results show that ABRI correctly detects a banana with 91.45% accuracy and the Automatic Power-Law Transformation correctly adjusts the image illumination with 95.72% accuracy. The colorimetric equation correctly identifies the ripening stage of all incoming images. ABRI is thus an accurate and robust tool that quickly, conveniently, and reliably provides the user with any LFB's ripening stage and the remaining days for consumption.

Ensuring boar sperm quality before insemination is crucial for maximizing field fertility and efficient pig production. The computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA) and fluorescence probes combined with flow cytometry (FC) are commonly used techniques for evaluating sperm kinematics and functions, closely related to animal fertility. However, their high cost and complex operations make it challenging to apply them in laboratories or pig breeding farms with limited resources.

Nickel, an essential transition metal, plays a vital role in biological systems and industries. However, exposure to nickel can cause severe health issues, such as asthma, dermatitis, pneumonitis, neurological disorders, and cancers of the nasal cavity and lungs. Due to nickel's toxicity and extensive industrial use, efficient sensors for detecting Ni ions in environmental and biological contexts are essential.

Obtaining gold nanorods (AuNRs) through biosynthesis is an alternative that replaces the traditional use of ascorbic acid with chemical compounds such as polyphenols, owing to their notable antioxidant properties. Therefore, we developed an AuNR biosynthesis method using an aqueous extract of sour guava (Psidium araca). Initially, a study was conducted to determine the antioxidant capacity of different parts of the fruit (pulp and peel) over 14 days.

Four dual-responsive probe molecules 1,5-bis(thiophene-2-carbaldehyde)carbohydrazone (R1), 1,5-bis(thiophene-2-carbaldehyde)thiocarbohydrazone (R2), 1,5-bis(indole-3-carbaldehyde)carbohydrazone (R3), and 1,5-bis(indole-3-carbaldehyde)thiocarbohydrazone (R4) were synthesized, characterized, and investigated for their sensing efficacy. The initial sensing behavior of the probes was tested by colorimetric signaling, followed by spectral and theoretical techniques, which supported the dual-sensing ability of the selected inorganic ions. The probes exhibited highly selective optical recognition for Cu/Fe cations and F/ClO anions compared to the tested cations and anions.

In colorimetric analysis, nanozymes are invaluable tools due to their simple production, long-lasting stability, and adaptable enzymatic activity, which enable them to induce changes in substrate color. In this study, a simple nanozyme-based colorimetric sensor was developed to detect cannabidiol (CBD) by using the laccase activity of the self-made MOF with copper and cobalt loading (Cu/Co@MOF) nanozyme, which was synthesized using a one-pot microwave method. The Cu/Co@MOF has the ability to catalyze the coupling reaction between 4-AP and various phenolic substrates, thereby converting colorless phenolic substrates into red substances.
