This paper highlights the potential of algae, recovered from raw beach seaweed wastes, as a valid source of valuable sodium alginate. Alginate is a biodegradable, highly attractive polysaccharide widely used in food, pharmaceuticals, and biomedicine applications. The aim of this work is to employ a new eco-sustainable and cost-effective extractive method to obtain alginate as a raw material from pollutant organic seaweeds. Algae were exposed to microwave pre-treatment under static and dynamic conditions, and three different extractive protocols were followed: (a) conventional, (b) hot water and (c) alkaline method. All samples were characterized by GPC, SEM, FTIR/ATR and TGA. It was found that alginate's best performances were obtained by the microwave dynamic pre-treatment method followed by alkaline extractive protocol. Nevertheless, the microwave pre-treatment of algae allowed the easiest breaking of their cell walls and the following fast releasing of sodium alginate. The authors demonstrated that microwave-enhanced extraction is an effective way to obtain sodium alginate from -stranded seaweed waste materials in a cost-effective and eco-sustainable approach. They also assessed their applications as mulching films for agricultural applications.

Although rice bran active peptide (RBAP) has potent antioxidant properties, its practical applications have been limited by its low bioavailability. In this study, we hypothesized that pH-responsive hydrogels prepared from the ionic gelation between chitosan and alginate could be a promising delivery system of short-chain peptides, like RBAP, for protecting them from chemical degradation during digestion and improving their functionality. The hydrogel beads retained RBAP in the gastric environment due to strong interactions between two biopolymers and RBAP, followed by a sustained release of more than 70 % peptide in the intestinal condition, thus improving its gastrointestinal stability.

Background: Regenerative endodontics requires an innovative delivery system to release antibiotics/growth factors in a sequential trend. This study focuses on developing/characterizing a thermoresponsive core-shell hydrogel designed for targeted drug delivery in endodontics.
Methods: The core-shell chitosan-alginate microparticles were prepared by electrospraying to deliver bone morphogenic protein-2 for 14 days and transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1) for 7-14 days.

Purpose: This study aimed to develop a solid self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (SNEDDS) and surface-coated microspheres to improve the oral bioavailability of niclosamide.
Methods: A solubility screening study showed that liquid SNEDDS, prepared using an optimized volume ratio of corn oil, Cremophor RH40, and Tween 80 (20:24:56), formed nanoemulsions with the smallest droplet size. Niclosamide was incorporated into this liquid SNEDDS and spray-dried with calcium silicate to produce solid SNEDDS.

We report on 3D-printable polymer networks based on the combination of modified alginate-based polymer blends; two alginate polymers were prepared, namely, a thermoresponsive polymer grafted with P(NIPAM--NtBAM)-NH copolymer chains and a second polymer modified with diol/pH-sensitive 3-aminophenylboronic acid. The gelation properties were determined by the hydrophobic association of the thermosensitive chains and the formation of boronate esters. At a mixing ratio of 70/30 wt % of the thermo/diol-responsive polymers, the semi-interpenetrating network exhibited an optimum storage modulus ranging from ca.

The proliferation of weeds, pests, and plant diseases in crop cultivation has driven the increased application of herbicide lactofen, insecticide acetamiprid, and fungicide carbendazim, contributing to environmental pollution. Microorganisms are requently employed to remove pesticide residues from the environment. However, Liquid bacterial agents encounter difficulties in transportation and preservation during application and the current immobilized bacterial agents have a single degradation function.
