Induced by the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the COVID-19 pandemic underlined the clear need for antivirals against coronaviruses. In an effort to identify new inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2, a screening of 824 extracts prepared from various parts of 400 plant species belonging to the Rutaceae and Annonaceae families was conducted using a cell-based HCoV-229E inhibition assay. Due to its significant activity, the ethyl acetate extract of the leaves of was selected for further chemical and biological investigations. Mass spectrometry-guided fractionation afforded three undescribed phenolic lipids (-), whose structures were determined via spectroscopic analysis. The absolute configurations of and were determined by analyzing Mosher ester derivatives. The antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 was subsequently shown, with IC values of 0.20 and 0.05 µM for and , respectively. The mechanism of action was further assessed, showing that both and are inhibitors of coronavirus entry by acting directly on the viral particle. Phenolic lipids from might be a source of new antiviral agents against human coronaviruses.

This study investigates the phenolic compounds (PC), volatile compounds (VC), and fatty acids (FA) of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) derived from the Turkish olive variety "Sarı Ulak", along with ADMET, DFT, molecular docking, and gene network analyses of significant molecules identified within the EVOO. Chromatographic methods (GC-FID, HPLC) were employed to characterize FA, PC, and VC profiles, while quality parameters, antioxidant activities (TAC, ABTS, DPPH) were assessed via spectrophotometry. The analysis revealed a complex composition of 40 volatile compounds, with estragole, 7-hydroxyheptene-1, and 3-methoxycinnamaldehyde as the primary components.

This study compared the degree of secondary hyperalgesia and somatosensory threshold changes induced by topical capsaicin between spinal and trigeminal innervation. This crossover clinical trial included 40 healthy individuals in which 0.25 g of 1% capsaicin cream was randomly applied for 45 minutes to a circular area of 2 cm to the skin covering the masseter muscle and forearm in 2 different sessions, separated by at least 24 hours and no more than 72 hours (washout period).

Plants frequently confront pathogens that disrupt physiological and molecular functions, ultimately reducing agricultural yields. To counter these challenges, plants activate sophisticated defense mechanisms to recognize stress signals while optimizing growth. Phytohormones signaling pathways and their crosstalk are central to regulating plant growth, development and defense.

Olive mill wastewater (OMWW), a byproduct of olive oil extraction, constitutes a natural resource of phenolic compounds. Hydroxytyrosol (HT), the predominant compound, exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective effects. This research aims to evaluate the effect of OMWW bioproduct rich in HT on retinal glial function, glutamate metabolism and synaptic transmission alterations mediated by hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia in high-calorie diet (HCD) induced diabetic retinopathy (DR) in Psammomys obesus.
