Published: July 2023

The article is a continuation of two previous review papers on the fracture mechanism of structural metals through the nucleation, growth and coalescence of voids. In the present paper, the literature on the numerical modelling of void nucleation and development has been reviewed. The scope of the work does not include porous material models and their numerical implementation. As part of the discussion on void initiation, nucleation around second phase particles and nucleation as an effect of the discontinuity of the crystal structure were discussed separately. The basic void cell models, finite element method (FEM) models of periodically distributed particles/voids and models based on the results of the observations of the actual microstructure of materials have been characterised. Basic issues related to the application of the cohesive approach in void nucleation modelling have been considered. A separate issue is the characteristics of atomistic simulations and peridynamic modelling, which have been developed in recent years. Numerical approaches to modelling the growth and coalescence of voids are described, with particular emphasis on the influence of the stress state and strain localisation. Basic conclusions from the simulation are presented, pointing to the contribution of FEM modelling to the understanding of microstructural phenomena leading to ductile fracture.

Background: Kazakhstan inherited the Semashko health system model, known for the centralized adoption of rules at the Ministry of Health (MoH) level that regulate the healthcare system. In 2019 MoH established a national framework with indicators aimed at collecting qualitative and quantitative data from healthcare organizations as part of their annual self-evaluation, and biannual external evaluation by the National Research Center for Health Development (NRCHD). The purpose of this study was to pilot the MoH framework on rational use of medicines and evaluate its effects on medicine use practices in health care organizations and at the national level.

The recent emergence of bile salt hydrolase (BSH) enzyme as a therapeutic target reflects its unbound potential in mitigating hypercholesterolemia, obesity, and gastrointestinal issues. However, to bolster its industrial application, optimization of BSH assay lays the cornerstone for enhancing sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility. The current study delved into optimizing the BSH assay parameters utilizing response surface methodology (RSM) and one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) method for two novel, natural BSH producers, Heyndrickxia coagulans ATCC 7050 and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum ATCC 10012.

Optimization of parallel coiled cavities of different depths in microperforated panel sound absorbers.

Sci Rep

Key Laboratory of Urban and Architectural Heritage Conservation, Ministry of Education, School of Architecture, Southeast University, 2# Sipailou, Nanjing, 210096, China.

This paper presents a microperforated panel (MPP) sound absorber with parallel coiled-up-cavities of different-depths (PCD) and the corresponding optimization on their cavities. In this study, an analytical model is initially proposed for estimating the cavity depths of the PCD-MPP absorber upon normal incidence absorption coefficient evaluation at given resonance frequencies. Cavity effective depths and normal incidence absorption coefficient are evaluated after coiling up cavities for a compact structure.
