Introduction: A modular head-neck adapter system may help surgeons restore the proximal hip biomechanics in revision hip arthroplasty. However, the clinical and radiographic 5-year outcomes of the system are still scarcely reported. The aim of this study is the assessment of (1) complications and survival rates, (2) clinical and (3) radiological outcomes of the modular head-neck adapter system with a ceramic head in revision hip arthroplasty at 5 years.
Methods: 32 revision hip arthroplasties using a modular head-neck adapter system and a ceramic head were retrospectively recorded. Preoperative demographic and implant features were collected. Clinical and radiographic outcomes, failures and reasons for re-revisions were recorded at the last follow-up.
Results: A mean follow-up of 59.8 ± 26 months was achieved. The survival rate was 90.6% at 5 years. Post-operative complications occurred in nine cases (28.1%): two dislocations (6.2%), one aseptic cup loosening (3.1%) requiring re-revision, one (3.1%) persistent pelvic pseudotumor requiring embolization. No mechanical failures of the adapter or ceramic head occurred. The mean post-operative HHS score was 84.4 points. Thirteen cases (40.6%) showed optimal radiographic cup osseointegration, and 17 hips (53.1%) showed valid stem osseointegration. The mean post-operative femoral offset was 48.84 mm, larger than the contralateral side ( = 0.02). The post-operative lateralization of the hip joint was 38.09 mm, close to the contralateral side ( = 0.4).
Conclusions: In revisions, the modular head-neck adapter system with ceramic head provided good clinical outcomes and acceptable radiographic reconstruction of hip biomechanics, with a survival rate of 87.9% at 5 years.

Neutron activation dosimetry is the primary method for the determination of the neutron flux or fluence, and in general, it is sensitive to the thermal and resonance energy ranges (radiative capture reactions- reactions) and the fast energy range (threshold reactions). However, there are very few nuclear reactions which are sensitive specifically to neutrons in the intermediate-epithermal-energy region. This energy region, along with the fast energy range, will become particularly important in the development and deployment of new reactor technologies (Generation IV reactors and Small Modular Reactors-SMRs), which are currently being championed as technologies enabling a meaningful contribution to decarbonization and the fight against climate change, as well as nuclear fusion.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to present the long-term functional swallowing outcomes of various surgical approaches to oral tongue/floor of mouth squamous cell carcinoma (OTFOMSCC) according to a modular and compartment-based concept previously described elsewhere.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on patients undergoing surgery for OTFOMSCC from January 2017 to April 2023 in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Hospital of Bolzano. Functional swallowing outcomes and quality of life (QoL) were assessed through the administration of a scale and questionnaires between 6 months and 1 year postoperatively or after the end of adjuvant therapy, stratifying the results according to the surgical technique used.

However, they caused high rates of revisions due to adverse reaction to metal debris, osteolysis, pseudotumor growth, and other issues. To reveal the formation process of speech processing with early hearing experiences, we tracked the development of functional connectivity in the auditory and language-related cortical areas of 84 (36 female) congenitally deafened toddlers using repeated functional near-infrared spectroscopy for up to 36 months post cochlear implantation (CI). Upon hearing restoration, the CI children lacked the modular organization of the mature speech-processing network and demonstrated a higher degree of immaturity in temporo-parietal than temporo-frontal connections. The speech-processing network appeared to form rapidly with early CI experiences, with two-thirds of the developing connections following nonlinear trajectories reflecting possibly more than one synaptogenesis-pruning cycle.
