Diarrhea in piglets is one of the most common diseases leading to high mortality and, as a result, to economic losses. Shotgun metagenomic sequencing was performed on the DNBSEQ-G50, MGI system to study the role of the fecal microbiome in the development of diarrhea in newborn piglets. Analysis of the study data showed that the composition of the fecal microbiome at the level of bacteria and fungi did not differ in piglets with diarrhea from the healthy group. Bacteria belonging to the phyla , , , , and were the most abundant. However, a higher level of bacterial alpha diversity was observed in the group of piglets with diarrhea, which may be due to dysbacteriosis and inflammation. The study of the virome showed the difference between the two types of phages: B40-8 prevailed in diseased piglets, while virus BP4 was found in greater numbers in healthy piglets. The results of our study suggest that the association between the fecal microbiome and susceptibility to diarrhea in suckling piglets may have been previously overestimated.

The mechanism(s) underlying gut microbial metabolite (GMM) contribution towards alcohol-mediated cardiovascular disease (CVD) is unknown. Herein we observe elevation in circulating phenylacetylglutamine (PAGln), a known CVD-associated GMM, in individuals living with alcohol use disorder. In a male murine binge-on-chronic alcohol model, we confirm gut microbial reorganization, elevation in PAGln levels, and the presence of cardiovascular pathophysiology.

The gut microbiota influences the reactivity of the immune system, and has emerged as an anti-inflammatory commensal. Here, we investigated whether its lysate could prevent severe forms of neuroinflammation in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in mice and how this preventive strategy affects the gut microbiota and immune response. Lysate of anaerobically cultured (Pd lysate) was orally administered to C57BL/6 mice in four weekly doses.

The gut microbiota of migratory birds is influenced by their food choices, and exploring the potential relationship between diet composition and gut microbiota can help better protect related species. By integrating non-invasive sampling techniques, high-throughput sequencing technology, and microscopic examination technology, this study presents the first evidence on diet composition during overwintering periods as well as the potential relationship between diet composition and gut microbiota in wild relict gulls (). Thirty-five fecal samples from two consecutive overwintering periods (2021 and 2022 overwintering periods) in Tianjin coastal wetland were used to investigate inter-year consistencies and discrepancies on diet composition and gut microbiota in wild It was found that the common dominant phyla of both 2021 and 2022 group included Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi and Actinobacteriota.

Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an allergic disease caused by various factors that can affect an individual's appearance and cause psychological stress. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the underlying mechanisms and develop effective treatment strategies. The gut microbiota and bacterial metabolism play crucial roles in human diseases.
