This study explores the food transport efficiency of termite using an individual-based model. Termites are believed to have evolved tunneling patterns that optimize food search and transport efficiency. However, few studies have investigated transport efficiency due to the difficulty of field observations. The model is characterized by four control variables: the number of simulated termites participating in transport (k), the distribution of high curvature sections of the termite tunnel (k), a quantity related to the density of the tunnel sections (k), and the duration of traffic jams (k). As k increases, the total length of the high curvature section decreases. Our simulation results show that the E(k, k) maps for k and k contain two modes: Mode A shows that E decreases with increasing k due to an increase in traffic jams, while Mode B shows E increasing with increasing k due to a decrease in the density of curved sections and an increase in jamming resolution time. The partial rank correlation coefficient analysis reveals that k and k have a negative effect on E, while k and k have a positive effect, with k having the greatest influence on E, followed by k, k, and k. The ecological implications of the simulation results are briefly described, and the limitations of the model are discussed.

To address the challenge of antibiotic-containing wastewater, a novel micromagnetic carrier-modified integrated fixed-film activated sludge system (MC-IFAS) was developed for treating tetracycline (TC)-containing swine wastewater in this study. The magnetic effects of the MC significantly enhanced TC removal by improving TC biosorption and biodegradation in both the suspended activated sludge and the carrier-attached biofilm in the MC-IFAS. The increased electrostatic attraction and number of binding sites in both the activated sludge and the biofilm enhanced their TC biosorption capacities, particularly in the activated sludge.

Road traffic congestion on the cold chain logistics not only increase the cost and time, but also creates certain negative impact on the national carbon emissions. To fully utilize the traffic resources, this study has classified urban road traffic congestion and defined the various vehicle delivery speeds with dynamic congestion levels. Simultaneously, it has developed the cold chain products replenishment strategy by considering delivery route, multi-depot condition and even vehicle types, aiming to minimize the total cost and carbon emissions, and maximizing the cold chain products freshness.

Dopant-free passivating contact crystalline silicon solar cells hold the potential of higher efficiency and cost down. In the hole-transport terminal, one still faces the challenge of trade-off between efficiency and stability. In this work, a H-AlO/NiO/Ni stacked hole-transport layer is proposed, where the H-AlO standing for H-rich AlO film can effectively reduce the interfacial defects and the high work function Ni metal results in a low contact resistance of 47.

Ocean oil spills can severely impact ecosystems and disrupt marine biodiversity and habitats. Microbial remediation is an effective method for removing thin oil slick contamination. In this study, the adsorption and degradation of low-concentration oil spills by Chlorella vulgaris LH-1 immobilized in konjac glucomannan (KGM) aerogel were investigated.

Amorphous clusters are gaining prominence as prospective hosts for sodium-ion hybrid capacitors (SIHCs), but their efficacy is still affected by atomic coordination. Optimization of ion storage and charge transport can be achieved through high coordination and bimetallic configurations. Herein, high-coordination amorphous P-Nb-W-P (Nb/W-P) clusters are skillfully tailored by bridging Nb into the second shell of W in the W-P configuration, nested in situ in conductive and stable N, P co-doped carbon nanospheres (Nb/W-P@NPC).
