Background: The relationship between ABO blood group and prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear. We investigated the relationship between prognosis and ABO blood group in patients with hepatitis B-associated HCC after radical hepatectomy.

Methods: The medical records of 874 patients with hepatitis B-associated HCC who underwent radical liver tumor resection were retrospectively collected. Cox proportional risk models were constructed for analysis, and the patient data were further balanced using propensity score matching (PSM) analysis to assess the impact of ABO blood group on the prognosis of patients with hepatitis B-associated HCC.

Results: In univariate Cox regression analysis, the overall survival (OS) of non-A blood type group vs. A blood type group [hazard ratio (HR) (95% confidence interval [CI]) = 1.504 (1.003-2.255), P = 0.048], in multivariate Cox regression analysis the OS of non-A blood type group versus A blood type group [HR (95% CI) = 1.596 (1.054-2.417), P = 0.027]. After PSM, the baseline information was more balanced between the two groups, yielding the same results as above [HR (95% CI) = 1.550 (1.012-2.373), P = 0.044].

Conclusion: The difference in OS after radical hepatectomy in patients with hepatitis B-associated HCC was statistically significant in terms of ABO blood group, OS was lower in patients with non-A blood group than in patients with A blood group.

Construction and validation of a predictive model for allergic rhinitis complicating children with bronchial asthma.

Allergol Immunopathol (Madr)

January 2025

Department of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine, Anhui Provincial Children's Hospital, Hefei City, Anhui Province, China.

This study aimed to investigate the factors influencing the complication of allergic rhinitis in children with bronchial asthma and to construct a nomogram model to predict the occurrence of allergic rhinitis. A total of 190 children with bronchial asthma admitted to our hospital from August 2020 to August 2024 were retrospectively analyzed. The children were randomly divided into the training cohort (133 cases) and validation cohort (57 cases) in a ratio of 7:3.

Importance: Medication adherence is important for managing blood pressure (BP), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). Interventions to improve medication adherence are needed.

Objective: To examine the effectiveness of an intervention using algorithmic identification of low medication adherence, clinical decision support to physicians, and pharmacist outreach to patients to improve cardiometabolic medication adherence and BP, LDL-C, and HbA1c control.

Background: Laparoscopic gastrectomy lacks hand-direct tactile sense and has a limited surgical field compared to laparotomy. Apart from textbook classification, there are anatomical variations in the gastric arteries. Laparoscopic gastrectomy presents technical difficulties and necessitates a more comprehensive comprehension of regional anatomy than open surgical procedures.

The study investigates the effect of dietary herbal mixture (HM) levels on growing New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits' performance, carcass characteristics, blood biochemicals, and microbiological characteristics from 5 to 13 weeks of age. In this study, 96 New Zealand White rabbits (male and female ratio 1:1) were used, and they were five weeks old. The rabbits were at random allocated into four experimental groups (n = 24 each) comprising 12 replicates, each with two rabbits.
