Spider venoms are composed, among other substances, of peptide toxins whose selectivity for certain physiological targets has made them powerful tools for applications such as bioinsecticides, analgesics, antiarrhythmics, antibacterials, antifungals and antimalarials, among others. Bioinsecticides are an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional agrochemicals. In this paper, the primary structure of an insecticidal peptide was obtained from the venom gland transcriptome of the ctenid spider (Transcript ID PhdNtxNav24). The peptide contains 53 amino acids, including 10 Cys residues that form 5 disulfide bonds. Using the amino acid sequence of such peptide, a synthetic gene was constructed de novo by overlapping PCRs and cloned into an expression vector. A recombinant peptide, named delta-ctenitoxin (rCtx-4), was obtained. It was expressed, folded, purified and validated using mass spectrometry (7994.61 Da). The insecticidal activity of rCtx-4 was demonstrated through intrathoracic injection in crickets (LD 1.2 μg/g insect) and it was not toxic to mice. rCtx-4 is a potential bioinsecticide that could have a broad spectrum of applications in agriculture.

Scorpion venom contains various bioactive peptides, many of which exhibit insecticidal activity. The majority of these peptides have a cystine-stabilized α-helix/β-sheet (CSαβ) motif. In addition to these peptides, scorpion venom also contains those with a cystine-stabilized α-helix/α-helix (CSαα) motif, which are known as κ-KTx peptides.

Alzheimer's is an advanced nervous disorder related to aging. The present study aimed to determine the effect of eight-week aerobic training, along with the consumption of Linalool, Cineole, and β-Bourbonene, on the prevention and improvement of Alzheimer's disease. Mice were randomly assigned to 8 groups: control group, mice induced with Alzheimer's disease treated with β-amyloid (Alzheimer group), Alzheimer's mice treated with bioactive compounds of herbal medicine (Linalool with a concentration of 25 mg/kg, Cineole with a concentration of 100 mg/kg, and β-Bourbonene with a concentration of 10 μg/ml) by gavage for 8 weeks (Alzheimer+Biocompounds group), Alzheimer's mice treated with aerobic exercise with a moderate intensity treadmill for 8 weeks (Alzheimer's+Training group), Alzheimer's mice treated with bioactive compounds of herbal medicine and aerobic exercise for 8 weeks (Alzheimer+Biocompounds+Training group), healthy mice initially treated with bioactive compounds of herbal medication (Linalool with a concentration of 25 mg/kg, Cineol with a concentration of 100 mg/kg, and β-Bourbonene with a concentration of 0.

Background: Transgenic plants expressing proteins that target the eggs of the ubiquitous plant pest Bemisia tabaci (whitefly) could be an effective insecticide strategy. Two approaches for protein delivery are assessed using the mCherry reporter gene in transgenic tomato plants, while accommodating autofluorescence in both the plant, phloem-feeding whitefly and pedicle-attached eggs.
Results: Both transgenic strategies were segregated to homozygous genotype using digital PCR.

Background: One of the common findings in systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients has been long-term exposure to environmental toxins such as pesticides. However, the data available shows an equivocal association between pesticide exposure and autoimmunity in SSc.
Methods: We investigated the levels of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in blood of 20 SSc patients and 17 healthy controls, and also studied their effect on T lymphocytes and their functional responses.

In cells, the term "cellular aging" represents a collection of biological changes that can precede the proliferative senescence states. Cells more resistant to proliferative senescence, such as the ones found in the basal layer of the epidermis, may also exhibit these aging patterns. Therefore, cellular aging events could be induced by endogenous signals named here as cellular aging triggers (CATs) components.
