Background: Surgical treatment of functional single ventricle combined with atrioventricular valve regurgitation remains a clinical challenge. The outcomes of atrioventricular valve repair in patients with single ventricle are limited.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted of all 28 patients with functional single ventricle treated with single-ventricle palliation who underwent atrioventricular valve operation at the First Hospital of Tsinghua University between April 2007 and October 2022.

Objective: To report our recent experience with prenatal detection of significant cardiovascular malformations (CVMs) in Nevada's state-wide maternal population receiving prenatal care.

Methods: We queried our databases for those with significant CVMs diagnosed pre- or postnatally between May 1, 2021, and April 30, 2024. We defined CVMs as those that required, would have required, or will likely require a therapeutic procedure in the first 12 months.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares outcomes of left atrial appendage closure combined with catheter ablation (LAACCA) vs. catheter ablation alone in patients with atrial fibrillation and heart failure.
  • Results show that LAACCA leads to longer hospital stays, higher mortality rates, and increased hospitalization costs compared to catheter ablation alone.
  • Post-procedure complications were also more common in the LAACCA group, including higher rates of myocardial ischemia and complete atrioventricular block.

A rare phenomenon involving ventricular separation: a case report.

BMC Cardiovasc Disord

December 2024

Department of Electrocardiology, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, No.108 WansongRoad, Wenzhou, 325200, People's Republic of China.

Background: Ventricular separation is a multipart, extensive disease of the heart that hinders the electrical conduction of the cardiac system ventricular muscle, causing a bidirectional conduction block. The occurrence of ventricular separation suggests that the myocardium is in a state of severe ischemia, and the prognosis is generally poor. Herein, we present arescue case in which the extremely rare phenomenon of ventricular separation developed and was documented in realtime.

Background -Smoking is associated with arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death, but the biological mechanisms remain unclear. In electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings abnormal durations of ventricular repolarization (QT interval), atrial depolarization (P wave), and atrioventricular depolarization (PR interval and segment), predict cardiac arrhythmia and mortality. Previous analyses of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database for associations between smoking and ECG abnormalities were incomplete.
