3D-printed scaffolds are suitable for patient-specific implant preparation for bone regeneration in large-scale critical bone defects. In addition, these scaffolds should have mechanical and biological properties similar to those of natural bone tissue. In this study, 3D-printed barium-doped calcium silicate (BaCS)/poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) composite scaffolds were fabricated as an alternative strategy for bone tissue engineering to achieve appropriate physicochemical characteristics and stimulate osteogenesis.

Sensitivity variation of doped Fricke gel irradiated with monochromatic synchrotron X rays between 33.5 and 80 keV.

Radiat Prot Dosimetry

June 2006

INSERM-U647 Rayonnement synchrotron et recherche médicale and ID17 Biomedical Beamline of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, 6 rue Jules Horowitz, BP 220, F-38043 Grenoble Cedex, France.

An experimental binary radiotherapy proposes the concomitant use of a high-Z compound and synchrotron X rays for enhancing radiation dose selectively in tumours by a photoelectric effect. This study aimed at measuring the resulting dose enhancement in irradiated material. A doped Fricke gel dosemeter model was manufactured with 10 mg ml(-1) of iodine (Telebrix) or barium (Micropaque).
