Full Wave Inversion and Inverse Scattering in Ultrasound Tomography/Volography.

Ultrasound breast tomography has been around for more than 40 years. Early approaches to reconstruction focused on simple algebraic reconstructions and bent ray techniques. These approaches were not able to provide high-quality and high spatial-resolution images. The advent of inverse scattering approaches resulted in a shift in image reconstruction approaches for breast tomography and a subsequent improvement in image quality. Full wave inverse solvers were developed to improve the reconstruction times without sacrificing image quality. The development of GPUs has markedly decreased the time for reconstruction using inverse scatting approaches. The development of fully 3D image solvers and hardware capable of capturing out of plane scattering have resulted in further improvement in breast tomography. This chapter discusses the state-of-the-art in ultrasound breast tomography, its history, the theory behind inverse scattering, approximations that are included to improve convergence, 3D image reconstruction, and hardware implementation of the constructions.

Background: The noninvasive imaging examinations of mammography (MG), low-dose computed tomography (CT) for lung cancer screening (LCS), and CT colonography (CTC) play important roles in screening for the most common cancer types. Internet search data can be used to gauge public interest in screening techniques, assess common screening-related questions and concerns, and formulate public awareness strategies.

Objective: This study aims to compare historical Google search volumes for MG, LCS, and CTC and to determine the most common search topics.

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients are at increased risk for recurrence compared to other subtypes of breast cancer. Previous evidence showed that adiposity may contribute to worsened cancer control. Current measures of obesity, such as body-mass index (BMI), are poor surrogates of adiposity, while visceral-to-subcutaneous adiposity ratio (VSR), which can be measured from routine computed tomography (CT) imaging, is a direct adiposity measure.

A 46-year-old woman with primary hyperparathyroidism and negative sestamibi parathyroid scan was referred for 18F-fluorocholine (18F-FCH) positron emission tomography (PET/CT) scan to help localize parathyroid adenoma. FCH PET/CT scan identified a hyperfunctioning parathyroid gland in the left neck. In addition, there was unusually intense unilateral FCH uptake in the right breast corresponding to dense soft tissue.

Objectives: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of transhepatic cardia-gastric fundus puncture (TCFP) for insufflation for CT-guided percutaneous gastrostomy (CPG).

Methods: The clinical data of 38 patients who underwent TCFP for insufflation and 161 patients who underwent percutaneous gastric body for insufflation at a single center were retrospectively analyzed. The operative time, success rate, complication rate, overall procedure time, and incidence of complications within 3 months were collected.

Breast cancer occurs at a younger age compared to western countries in South Korea. Despite advancements in treatment methods such as targeted therapy and immunotherapy, the increasing number of patients underscores the importance of improving disease-free survival (DFS). In this study, we evaluated the associations between gut microbiota composition, inflammatory cytokine levels, and breast cancer recurrence in preoperative patients.
