A study was made of the modifying effect of a short-term induced hyperglycemia on the effectiveness of X- and neutron-radiation. It was shown that relative biological effectiveness of 6.0 MeV neutrons emitted by cyclotron U-120 was 2.33, in relation to standard X-radiation, as determined by the survival rate of irradiated HeLa cells. The short-term induced hyperglycemia increased the effectiveness of both X- and neutron-radiation; the changeability of the latter, however, was decreased as compared to X-radiation.

Rationale: To examine the acute effects of ayahuasca use and their relationship to sub-acute changes in affect and mindfulness in a non-clinical sample, addressing the need for a better understanding of ayahuasca's immediate and short-term impacts as interest in its use grows.
Objectives: Using prospective ecological assessment, this study investigates how ayahuasca used at a 4-day retreat affects positive/negative affect and mindfulness skills in daily living compared to pre-retreat. Additionally, we explore acute psychedelic experiences during the ayahuasca retreat, assessed retrospectively 1-2 days post-retreat, as potential mechanisms for theorized effects in daily living post-retreat.

Caving mining in extra-thick coal seams induces large-scale overburden movement, leading to more intense fracture processes in key strata, more significant surface subsidence, and frequent dynamic disasters in mines. This study, using the N34-2 caving face of the 17th coal seam at Junde Mine as a case study, aims to investigate the time-varying linkage mechanism between surface subsidence, microseismic characteristics, and fracture scales of the overburden's key strata under such mining conditions. Based on Timoshenko's theory, a bearing fracture mode for the overburden's key strata is proposed, and corresponding fracture criteria are established.

The relationship between fine particulate matter (PM) and cognition has been extensively investigated. However, the causal impact of acute PM purification on cognition improvement and the underlying biological mechanisms remain relatively opaque. Our double-blinded randomized controlled trial assessed the impact of acute PM purification on executive function, underpinned by multi-omics approaches including alternative splicing (AS) analysis.

Objectives: The effects of acute physical exercise in patients with resistant hypertension remain largely unexplored compared with hypertensive patients in general. We assessed the short-term effects of acute moderate-intensity (MICE) and high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) on the clinic (BP) and 24-h ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) of patients with resistant hypertension.
Methods: Using a crossover randomized controlled design, 10 participants (56 ± 7 years) with resistant hypertension performed three experimental sessions: MICE, HIIE, and control.

Background: Chronic and excessive alcohol consumption is the leading cause of death due to chronic liver disease. Alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) encompasses a broad spectrum of clinical and pathological features, ranging from asymptomatic and reversible pathologies to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a highly prevalent and deadly liver cancer. Indeed, alcohol consumption is one of the main worldwide etiologies of HCC.
