Two perylenediimide (PDI) regioisomers with the central core substituted at the (Y-αPDI) and bay (Y-βPDI) areas of the PDIs were successfully prepared. The regioisomeric effects on the physicochemical and charge-transport properties were thoroughly investigated. The results unravel that Y-βPDI shows ambipolar transport with higher mobilities compared to its -counterpart, which is due to its favourable molecular geometry, stronger intermolecular interaction and improved electron-withdrawing ability.

Article Synopsis
  • * Bacteriochlorophyll (BChl), essential for photosynthesis, was combined with TiCT MXene to create five composite photocatalysts aimed at enhancing hydrogen production under visible light.
  • * Among the variations, BChl-5 with a quaternary ammonium group achieved the highest hydrogen production rate of 51 μmol/h/g due to its strong self-aggregation and excellent electric charge transport with TiCT MXene.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a vibrational spectroscopic technique with molecular fingerprinting capability and high sensitivity, even down to the single-molecule level. As it is 50 years since the observation of the phenomenon, it has now become an important task to discuss the challenges in this field and determine the areas of development. Electromagnetic enhancement has a mature theoretical explanation, while a chemical mechanism which involves more complex interactions has been difficult to elucidate until recently.

The urgent need to shift from non-renewable to renewable energy sources has caused widespread interest in photovoltaic technologies that allow us to harness readily available and sustainable solar energy. In the past decade, polymer solar cells (PSCs) and perovskite solar cells (Per-SCs) have gained attention owing to their low price and easy fabrication process. Charge transport layers (CTLs), transparent conductive electrodes (TCEs), and metallic top electrodes are important constituents of PSCs and Per-SCs, which affect the efficiency and stability of these cells.

Supramolecular assemblies, formed through electronic charge transfer between two or more entities, represent a rich class of compounds dubbed as charge-transfer complexes (CTCs). Their distinctive formation pathway, rooted in charge-transfer processes at the interface of CTC-forming components, results in the delocalization of electronic charge along molecular stacks, rendering CTCs intrinsic molecular conductors. Since the discovery of CTCs, intensive research has explored their unique properties including magnetism, conductivity, and superconductivity.

ConspectusPorous frameworks possess high porosity and adjustable functions. The two features conjointly create sufficient interfaces for matter exchange and energy transfer within the skeletons. For crystalline porous frameworks, including metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs), their long-range ordered structures indeed play an important role in managing versatile physicochemical behaviors such as electron transfer or band gap engineering.
