Introduction: Oligodontia is a serious developmental dental anomaly that requires long-term multidisciplinary treatment, but its clinical characteristics are not well understood because it is rare. This study evaluated the mesiodistal angulation and developmental stages of unerupted mandibular second premolars (MnP2s) in orthodontic patients with nonsyndromic oligodontia.

Methods: Thirty-seven patients with oligodontia with at least 1 unerupted MnP2 in Demirjian's developmental stages between D and G were selected. Age- and sex-matched patients without tooth agenesis, excluding third molars, were selected as the control group. Mesiodistal angulation between the long axis of the available MnP2 and the mandibular plane was measured on panoramic radiographs.

Results: The MnP2 was significantly more distally angulated in the oligodontia group than in the control group. The developmental stage of the MnP2 in the oligodontia group was significantly delayed (1.04 ± 0.26 years; 95% confidence interval, 0.53-1.55 years). No correlation between the mesiodistal angulation and the developmental stage of the MnP2 was found in both groups.

Conclusions: Significant distal angulation and delayed developmental stages of MnP2s were found in patients with nonsyndromic oligodontia compared with age- and sex-matched patients without agenesis of permanent teeth, excluding third molars. However, no significant correlation was found between them. Regardless of the severity of the distal angulation of MnP2, observing delayed dental development in each patient is important.

Introduction: The complexity of treating impacted maxillary canines varies based on their angulation and position within the dental arch. The aim of this research was to compare the mesiodistal angulation of maxillary canines according to their impaction sector.

Methods: This cross-sectional study evaluated 229 impacted maxillary canines in 171 panoramic radiographs from two private radiology centres in Uruguay and Chile of individuals of both sexes aged 11 years and older with impacted maxillary canines.

Article Synopsis
  • This study compared clear aligners (CA) with removable inclined planes (RIP) for treating anterior crossbite in children aged 8 to 12, using 3D digital models to assess treatment outcomes.
  • Twenty-four patients were randomly divided into two groups and evaluated on various dental metrics before and after 4 months of treatment, focusing on the movement of maxillary incisors.
  • Results indicated that while both methods were effective, the clear aligner group showed greater improvements in maxillary incisor movement, intermolar width, and arch perimeter compared to the RIP group.

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Dentistry, University of Oviedo, C/. Catedrático Serrano s/n., 33006 Oviedo, Spain.

The primary aim of this study was to evaluate, using conventional radiographic imaging, the height, angulation, and mesiodistal position of impacted maxillary canines to determine if these variables are significantly associated with the palatal or buccal positioning of the tooth. A retrospective analysis was conducted on all patients diagnosed and treated for at least one impacted maxillary canine over a 4-year period in the Principality of Asturias. The final sample included 159 impacted canines.

Statement Of Problem: The effects of nonaxial forces on peri-implant bone loss have been investigated, mostly in reference to buccal mesiodistal implant angulations as potential risk indicators. However, when implant angulations are multidirectional, including the buccolingual aspect, evaluations of peri-implant bone loss based solely on mesiodistal measurements may skew the correlation.

Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the correlation between the magnitudes of multidirectional implant angulations and peri-implant crestal bone loss.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of the implant placement using surgical stents versus conventional implant placement.

Materials And Methods: Twenty patients who reported to Rajarajeswari Dental College and Hospital were selected and they were randomly divided into two groups. In both the groups, the selection of the implant size was based on the ridge mapping.
