This work demonstrates the degradation of toxic RhB (rhodamine B) dye from polluted water in various pH environments. It assesses the antibacterial action of CDs (carbon dots)/CS (chitosan)-doped LaO (lanthanum oxide) NRs (nanorods). CS and CDs have been introduced as dopants to modify the characteristics of LaO to achieve efficient outcomes. The influence of doping on the structural, morphological, optical, and elemental properties of synthesized LaO NRs was investigated through a number of analytical techniques. The structural analysis of XRD revealed a hexagonal phase. The rod-like structure of pure LaO and reduction in the size of NRs upon doping were exhibited by TEM micrographs. From UV-vis spectroscopy, increased absorption upon doping and introduction of redshift that led to reduced bandgap energy were observed. The FTIR spectra indicate the presence of functional groups of pure and integrated samples. The catalytic activity of specimens in basic medium toward dye showed excellent results (94.57%). The inhibition zone of diameter 4.15 mm was evaluated by 6 mL of CDs/CS-doped LaO NRs against once the surface area increased by dopants. In silico experiments were performed for enoyl-[acyl-carrier-protein] reductase (FabI) and DNA gyrase enzymes to assess the potency of CS-doped LaO and CDs/CS-doped LaO as their inhibitors and to justify their possible mechanism of action.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is predicted to outstrip malaria, HIV, and tuberculosis combined as the leading infectious cause of death by 2050. Strengthening the knowledge and evidence base for AMR with surveillance and research is one of the five main objectives of the WHO Global Action Plan on AMR. While recent efforts to strengthen diagnosis and surveillance have been encouraging, these are unlikely to be sustainable without continued funding support in most low-resource settings.

A novel molecular structure that bridges the fields of molecular optical cycling and molecular photoswitching is presented. It is based on a photoswitching molecule azobenzene functionalized with one and two CaO- groups, which can act as optical cycling centers (OCCs). This paper characterizes the electronic structure of the resulting model systems, focusing on three questions: (1) how the electronic states of the photoswitch are impacted by a functionalization with an OCC; (2) how the states of the OCC are impacted by the scaffold of the photoswitch; and (3) whether the OCC can serve as a spectroscopic probe of isomerization.

A 66-year-old woman status post bony lateral orbital decompression for thyroid eye disease presented with recurrent episodes of left lateral canthal edema and erythema, despite repeated courses of oral antibiotics, titanium hardware removal, and repeated exploratory orbitotomies with debridement and curettage. MRI later revealed an intraosseous fluid collection in the left greater sphenoid wing. Another exploratory orbitotomy was performed and an intraosseous abscess was identified.
