This study comprehensively investigated the Cs signal in 294 sediment core samples from 132 lakes including reservoir and Gobi catchment in China. First, three Cs chrono-markers were observed: the 1963 peak corresponding to the maximum deposition of radioactive debris from global fallout, and two local sub-peaks corresponding to the time of the nuclear tests at Chinese Lop Nor site with a maximum in 1976, and to the Chernobyl accident in 1986. Second, the spatial distribution of sedimentation rates based on the 1963 Cs chrono-marker in Chinese lake sediment cores was studied.

Background: The increase of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) rate among children who were exposed to post-Chernobyl 131-I release was reported only four years after the accident, first in Belarus where the heaviest fallout happened. The evolution of the occurrence of thyroid carcinoma based on the age-period-cohort analysis and the effects of age, period, and birth cohort on time trends aimed to reveal if post-Chernobyl follicular cells irradiation still has been impacting on incidence rate of papillary thyroid carcinoma nowadays.
Methods: The Belarusian Cancer Registry was used to identify patients with PTC diagnosed during the years 1980-2019.

Objective: Scientific justification of the methodology for calculating radiation internal doses from 137Cs and 134Cs intake for residents of Ukrainian settlements radioactively contaminated as a result of the Chornobyl (Chernobyl) accident in which measurements of incorporated radiocesium isotopes in humans using whole-body counters (WBC) were not carried out.
Materials And Methods: The paper presents a new methodology for reconstructing doses due to internal irradiation from Chornobyl fallout for both surface (in 1986) and root (in 1987-2023) contamination of vegetation with 137Cs and 134Cs and their transfer into the human body. The methodology for calculating the dose due to surface contamination of vegetation was based on the theoretical model of the transfer of radiocesium isotopes through the food chain with further adjustment of this model to the results of WBC measurements carried out between 15 July and 31 December 1986.

Cryoconite, granule-shaped debris found on the surface of glaciers, is known for trapping substantial quantities of pollutants such as radioactive nuclides and heavy metals. This study investigates contamination levels, sources and spatial variability of natural and artificial radioisotopes in cryoconite from Mittivakkat Gletsjer in southeast Greenland by determining the activity and atomic ratios of selected radionuclides. The maximum activity concentrations of artificial radioisotopes were 1129 ± 34 Bq kg for Cs, 3.

The Irish Sea and the Baltic Sea are nowadays still the two most Cs-137 contaminated Seas worldwide. However, the origins of this contaminations are completely different. While the Baltic Sea was unintentionally contaminated due to global fallout after the accident in the Chernobyl nuclear powerplant in 1986, the Irish sea was intentionally used for low level liquid radioactive waste discharges from the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing facility (called Windscale until 1981) between the 1950s and 1990s.
