Soy protein hydrolysates enhance integral viable cell density (IVCD) and recombinant protein production (Immunoglobulin, IgG) in cell cultures, but their functionality varies from batch-to-batch. This is undesirable since it affects both quantity and characteristics of the recombinant proteins. It is hypothesized that the variability of hydrolysates is due to variations in meal and hydrolysate processing treatments. To study this, hydrolysates were produced from meals heated at 121 °C/0-120 min. The heating decreased free amino acid and reducing monosaccharide contents in meals (0.72-0.27% and 3.3-2.6%) and hydrolysates (14.7-7.1% and 16.9-7.9%). Dry heating introduced large variation in the IVCD ((115-316%), but additional heating in suspension reduced it (131-159%). The decrease in IVCD variation corresponded with decreased variation in carboxymethyl-lysine (CML) and lysinoalanine (LAL) contents. Thus, meal and hydrolysate processing induced substantial variation in hydrolysate functionality. It is therefore critical to establish strict process controls for meal and hydrolysate production to ensure consistency.

This study aimed to investigate the protective effects and defense mechanisms of a sesame meal protein hydrolysate against ethanol-induced acute gastric mucosal injury in mice. The target peptides in the hydrolysate were identified by LC-MS/MS, the activity was predicted by PeptideRanker, and the KM mice were orally administered distilled water, a sesame peptide, and omeprazole for 24 consecutive days. Acute gastric mucosal injury was then induced in mice with 70% ethanol, except for the CK group.

We investigated the effect of feed deprivation for 45 days on the growth, immunity, and health of 0marron () initially fed for 110 days on various protein sources including fishmeal (FM), poultry by-product meal (PBM), black soldier fly meal (BSFM), soybean meal (SBM), lupin meal (LM), and tuna hydrolysate. The marron were weighed and sacrificed immediately after feeding stopped (day 0) and at days 15, 30, and 45 after the feed deprivation trial commenced. This study aimed to evaluate the use of hydrolysed poultry byproduct meal (HPM) as a replacement for conventional poultry byproduct meal (PBM) as a protein source and to study its effects on serum cytokines, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity, serum antioxidant parameters, blood pressure, and urinary parameters in cats.
