SBO is a life-threatening disease that requires a high index of suspicion based on these patients complex underlying medical co-morbidities and clinician's acumen. Once a diagnosis is made, is it critical to communicate and work closely with other multidisciplinary teams (neuroradiology for appropriate choice of imaging study and interpretation; infectious disease for appropriate medical treatment and duration; internist to properly manage their underlying medical co-morbidities). Despite advances in imaging, the diagnosis is first made based on clinical judgment, appropriate culture, and tissue biopsy.

Cardiac Arrhythmia Center, National Center for Cardiovascular Disease, Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, No. 167 Beilishi Road, Xicheng District, Beijing, 100037, China.

Background: Heart failure (HF) significantly impacts the cardiovascular health of children and adolescents. This study aims to assess epidemiologic trends in HF across sex, age, region, and time period.

Methods: The number and age-standardized rate (ASR) of prevalence and years lived with disability (YLDs) were derived from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019.

Purpose: Opioid medications remain a common treatment for acute pain in hospitalized patients. This study aims to identify factors contributing to opioid overdose in the inpatient population, addressing the gap in data on which patients are at higher risk for opioid-related adverse events in the hospital setting.

Methods: A retrospective chart review of inpatients receiving at least one opioid medication was performed at a large academic medical center from January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2022.

Melatonin antagonizes bone loss induced by mechanical unloading via IGF2BP1-dependent mA regulation.

Disuse bone loss is prone to occur in individuals who lack mechanical stimulation due to prolonged spaceflight or extended bed rest, rendering them susceptible to fractures and placing an enormous burden on social care; nevertheless, the underlying molecular mechanisms of bone loss caused by mechanical unloading have not been fully elucidated. Numerous studies have focused on the epigenetic regulation of disuse bone loss; yet limited research has been conducted on the impact of RNA modification bone formation in response to mechanical unloading conditions. In this study, we discovered that mA reader IGF2BP1 was downregulated in both osteoblasts treated with 2D clinostat and bone tissue in HLU mice.

Maternal adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are linked to negative health and developmental outcomes in offspring. However, whether maternal ACEs influence infant weight gain in the first months of life, and if this effect differs by infant sex, remains unclear. This study included 352 full-term newborns from low-risk pregnancies and their mothers in low-income settings in Brazil.

Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) improves survival for prolonged cardiac arrest (CA) but carries significant risks and costs due to ECMO. Previous predictive models have been complex, incorporating both clinical data and parameters obtained after CPR or ECMO initiation. This study aims to compare a simpler clinical-only model with a model that includes both clinical and pre-ECMO laboratory parameters, to refine patient selection and improve ECPR outcomes.
