Human lectin purified from placenta induced release of cytotoxin from a murine macrophage cell line and human peritoneal monocytes. This activity was not due to contamination of the lectin preparation with lipopolysaccharide.

toxigenic strains represent a critical health threat, mainly due to their link to antibiotic-associated hemorrhagic colitis. This serious condition results from the bacteria's ability to produce tilimycin and tilivalline cytotoxins. Our research highlights the pivotal role of OmpR, a key regulator within the EnvZ/OmpR two-component system, in controlling the virulence factors associated with .

Simultaneous detection of different biomarkers related to the spatiotemporally dynamic immune events is of particular importance for the accurate evaluation of antitumor immune effects. Here, we have developed an AND-gate logic dual resonance energy transfer nanoprobe (named DRET) for dynamic monitoring of programmed CD8 T cell activation and tumor cell apoptosis. Immunotherapy-induced granzyme B secretion from CD8 T cells and the subsequent caspase-3 release from apoptotic tumor cells individually activate one of the tiers of the "AND-gate" logic DRET.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common autoimmune disorder characterized by exacerbated joint inflammation. Despite the well-documented accumulation of the serine protease granzyme B (GzmB) in RA patient biospecimens, little is understood pertaining to its role in pathobiology. In the present study, tenascin-C (TNC) - a large, pro-inflammatory extracellular matrix glycoprotein - was identified as a substrate for GzmB in RA.

"True" cobras (genus ) are among the venomous snakes most frequently involved in snakebite accidents in Africa and Asia. The Cape cobra () is one of the African cobras of highest medical importance, but much remains to be learned about its venom. Here, we used a shotgun proteomics approach to better understand the qualitative composition of venom and tested its cytotoxicity and protease activity as well as its effect on intracellular Ca release and NO synthesis.

() is a prominent Gram-positive bacterial pathogen that expresses numerous cytotoxins known to target human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs or neutrophils). These include leukocidin G/H (LukGH, also known as LukAB), the Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL), γ-hemolysin A/B (HlgAB), γ-hemolysin B/C (HlgBC), leukocidin E/D (LukED), α-hemolysin (Hla), and the phenol-soluble modulin-α peptides (PSMα). However, the relative contribution of each of these cytotoxins in causing human PMN lysis is not clear.
