Background: The role of cyclic guanosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cGMP) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is not well understood despite its significance as a second messenger of natriuretic peptides (NPs) in cardiovascular disease. We investigated the association between the NP-cGMP cascade and left ventricular reverse remodelling (LVRR) in anterior AMI.

Methods: 67 patients with their first anterior AMI (median age, 64 years; male, 76%) underwent prospective evaluation of plasma concentrations of the molecular forms of A-type and B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and cGMP from immediately after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) to 10 months post-AMI.

From Escalate to Elevate: A New Paradigm for Comprehensive Cardiogenic Shock Management.

Can J Cardiol

January 2025

Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research, University Health Network, Toronto, ON, Canada; Division of Cardiology, Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, University Health Network, Toronto, ON, Canada. Electronic address:

Patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) present with critical hemodynamic compromise with low cardiac output (CO) resulting in end-organ dysfunction. Prognosis is closely related to the severity of shock and treatment of patients with CS is resource intensive. In this review, we consider the current treatment paradigms alongside the evidence that underpins them.

The possibility of using an oxygen-nitrous oxide mixture for prolonged hypothermic preservation of rat heart for 24 hours was investigated. A comparative analysis of restoration of functional activity of hearts in the groups of 24-hour preservation at +4°C with different gases (O, N) and gas mixtures (CO+O, NO+O, N+O, NO+N) was carried out. It was shown that the presence of oxygen in the gas mixture was the key factor for heart preservation.

Background: Left ventricular (LV) dilatation and extensive scar portend a poor prognosis in heart failure (HF). The Revivent TC system (BioVentrix Inc) is used either during a hybrid transcatheter-surgical or a surgical-only procedure to exclude transmural scar and reduce LV dimensions.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the safety and efficacy of the Revivent TC® anchor system in patients with HF.

Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) is traditionally described as chronic peripheral eosinophilia with involvement of various organs and systems, including the heart and nervous system. In this report, we describe cardiac involvement and border zone stroke in a patient with idiopathic HES. A 37-year-old woman presented with sudden right-sided weakness and slurred speech, which began four days before admission, accompanied by palpitations, retrosternal exertional chest discomfort, dry cough, and progressive shortness of breath over approximately two months.
