We present a compact adaptive glass membrane lens for higher order wavefront correction and axial scanning, driven by integrated segmented piezoelectric actuators. The membrane can be deformed in a combination of rotational symmetry providing focus control of up to ± 6 m and spherical aberration correction of up to 5 wavelengths and different discrete symmetries to correct higher order aberrations such as astigmatism, coma and trefoil by up to 10 wavelengths. Our design provides a large clear aperture of 12 mm at an outer diameter of the actuator of 18 mm, a thickness of 2 mm and a response time of less than 2 ms.

In this study, we demonstrate a unique and promising approach to access peptide-based diverse nanostructures in a single gelator regime that is capable of exhibiting different surface topographies and variable physical properties, which, in turn, can effectively mimic the extracellular matrix (ECM) and regulate variable cellular responses. These diverse nanostructures represent different energy states in the free energy landscape, which have been created through different self-assembling pathways by providing variable energy inputs by simply altering the gelation induction temperature from 40 °C to 90 °C. The highly entangled network structure with long fibers was created by higher energy inputs, , inducing the gelation at a higher temperature in the 70-90 °C range, whereas the less entangled nanoscale network with short fibers was obtained at a lower gelation induction temperature of 40-60 °C.

The Galerkin approach for numerically resolving higher-order Complex Differential Equations (CDEs) in a rectangular domain in the complex plane is presented in this work. Taylor polynomial functions are used in this method as basis or weighted functions. The CDE is converted into a matrix equation by employing the proposed method.

Some real-world phenomena and human-made problems have been modeled as networks where the objects form pairwise interactions. However, this is a limited approach when the existence of high-order interactions is inherent in a system, such as the brain, social networks and ecosystems. The way in which these high-order interactions affect the collective behavior of a complex system is still an open question.

Introduction: Corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) detects neurodegeneration in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia and identifies subjects with MCI who develop dementia. This study assessed whether abnormalities in corneal endothelial cell (CEC) morphology are related to corneal nerve morphology, brain volumetry, cerebral ischemia, and cognitive impairment in MCI and dementia.
Methods: Participants with no cognitive impairment (NCI), MCI, and dementia underwent CCM to quantify corneal endothelial cell density (CECD) and area (CECA), corneal nerve fiber morphology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain volumetry, and severity of brain ischemia.

The longest oligos that can be chemically synthesized are considered to be 200-mers. Here, we report direct synthesis of an 800-mer green fluorescent protein gene and a 1728-mer 29 DNA polymerase gene on an automated synthesizer. Key innovations that enabled this breakthrough include conducting the synthesis on a smooth surface rather than within the pores of traditional supports, and the use of the powerful catching-by-polymerization (CBP) method for isolating the full-length oligos from a complex mixture.
