Evaluating student understanding of core pharmacokinetic concepts.

Eur J Pharmacol

January 2025

Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Monash University, Australia. Electronic address:

Both educators and graduates have expressed concern about a perceived pharmacology knowledge gap that includes difficulty applying fundamental principles to clinical and research problems. Consequently, we sought to determine the extent to which current students can explain the meaning of, and appropriately apply, a subset of core concepts, and to identify any misconceptions arising from the responses. Of the twenty-four pharmacology core concepts arising from the recent international collaboration, four pharmacokinetic concepts were chosen, namely drug bioavailability, drug clearance, volume of distribution, and steady-state concentration.

Evaluating climate-related financial policies' impact on decarbonization with machine learning methods.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Joint Lab Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Osnabrück University, 49074, Osnabrück, Germany.

This study examines how Climate-Related Financial Policies (CRFPs) support decarbonization and renewable energy transitions across 87 countries from 2000 to 2023. Using the Policy Sequencing Score (PSS) and a bindingness-weighted adoption indicator, it explores the relationships between CRFPs, CO2 emissions, and Renewable Energy Production (REP) across diverse economic and institutional contexts. Findings reveal significant variation in outcomes.

Mind in others' shoes: Neuroscientific protocol for external referent decision awareness (ERDA) in organizations.

Neuroscience

January 2025

International Research Center for Cognitive Applied Neuroscience (IrcCAN), Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan, Italy; Research Unit in Affective and Social Neuroscience, Department of Psychology, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan, Italy.

This study investigates the neural and physiological mechanisms underlying External Referent Decision Awareness (ERDA) within organizational contexts, focusing on hierarchical roles (Head, Peer, Staff). Twenty-two professionals participated, and electroencephalographic (EEG frequency band: Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta, Gamma) and autonomic indices (skin conductance and cardiovascular indices) were recorded, while personality traits and decision-making styles were assessed. Results revealed higher Delta and Theta activation in the left temporo-parietal junction (TPJ) during Peer-related decisions, reflecting increased social cognition and ambiguity regulation in those contexts.

The advancement of targeted regulation of hepatic stellate cells using Traditional chinese medicine for the treatment of liver fibrosis.

J Ethnopharmacol

January 2025

College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tianjin, 301617, P.R. China; State Key Laboratory of Component-based Chinese Medicine, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tianjin, 301617, P.R. China.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Liver fibrosis, which is a precursor to cirrhosis in chronic liver diseases, is driven by various factors. The activation and proliferation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are recognized as a crucial phase in the progression of liver fibrosis. Compared with western drug therapy, Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and herbal medicine not only have the advantages of multi-target and multi-pathways in the treatment of liver fibrosis, but also have high safety without toxic side effects.
